As wives, Christian wives, I do not think we realize the power of prayer and the importance of it in marriage. We have a responsibility as Christian wives to be help meets to our husbands, and part of that means praying for them every day.
I know for me personally, praying for my husband when we are on the outs is VERY hard. I find myself praying that God “fix HIM!” LOL! Unfortunately, that sort of prayer is not going to benefit you, your husband or your marriage.
Pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored to a spiritual tone of mind and heart. The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available dynamic in its working. - James 5:16b
We MUST pray for our husbands. It is life changing and powerful for them, our children and our marriages. Every day we should be praying throughout our day…especially when we are fighting or irritated with them. THAT is the BEST time to pray for them….IF the pray is FOR them and not ABOUT them!
What causes us to pray ABOUT them instead of FOR them?
I mean, many times when we are upset with our husbands, we ask God to fix their issues instead of asking God to bless them.
Back to Causes…
- unforgiveness
- bitterness
- selfishness
- pride
- denial
- unrealistic expectations
We are all fallen. Our husbands are not perfect and never will be. They will ALWAYS let us down in one way or another. That is just the way it is. A great way to see how God focused you and and where you are in your personal relationship with Him is to do a self check.
What do I mean?
Let me explain…
We ALL have had some sort of unrealistic expectation in our marriages. This world makes it very difficult for a wife to have a REALISTIC view of what a husband should be.
Worldly Perspective:
- husband should buy chocolates and flowers
- husband should meet all my needs
- husband should be romantic and sweep me off my feet
- husband should love me no matter how fat I get
- husband should remember everything
- husband should read my mind
God’s Word Perspective:
- wife is to be a help meet to her husband and that means HELP him…they do not forget because they do not love us, the forget because they need help. Period.
- wife is to love and forgive her husband.
- wife is to honor and respect her husband
- wife is to pray for her husband
- and most IMPORTANT…wife is to seek GOD to meet her needs and put her hope in Him, NOT her human and sin filled husband.
If you see that you have a more worldly view and feel let down by your husband, you may need to get on your knees more FOR your husband. You may also need to seek God and develop a personal relationship with Him.
Being a Christian wife is more than believing Jesus died on the Cross and rose on the third day. It is a lifestyle. It is a daily dying of self. It is growing. It is seeking God daily. It is developing a RELATIONSHIP with your Daddy in Heaven.
So, the next time you have then enemy whispering in your ear how much better so an so is as a husband, or how you should have never married this man, or poor you bologna, PRAY! Pray FOR him and pray for God to change YOU! Yes YOU!
Let’s Pray,
Daddy God, thank you for my husband. Thank You for all that he is and all that You created him to be. I pray that You bless him in all he does. I ask that You give him the secret desires of His heart. I pray that you give Him a hunger and desire for You. Lord, I ask that You wrap Your loving arms around him and let him KNOW and feel how much You love him. Lord, I pray that You heal any areas of his body that are not right or painful. I pray that you heal his heart and mind from any hurts. I pray that You keep him safe on the roads today and help him to be salt and light in the world he faces today. Lord, I ask that You help me to be a wife that brings YOU glory. Help me to love my husband. Help me to HELP my husband. Help me to pray for my husband. Help me to honor and respect my husband in thoughts, words and deeds. Lord change me. Change anything in me that does not bring YOU glory or line up with what YOUR Word says. Help ME to be a good wife and for my kids to see what a good wife and marriage should be through our marriage. Teach me Lord. Help me to have a GOD view and not a worldly view of what a marriage relationship should be. Help me see my husband the way YOU do. Help me to forgive him for his faults and come to You with my disappointments. I love YOU, Daddy! THANK YOU for loving me! In Jesus Mighty Name!

Thank you for the devotion. I really needed to be reminded of how much I need to pray for my husband. Again, thank you. Mandy Loman
This was really food for my soul. As you know, I am new to this married life and find that I still have a lot of those wordly views that you mentioned. So thank you and I thank god for laying it upon your heart to write this.
This is a great one! I struggle in this area as I believe every wife does. Since the fall of Adam and Eve God said that Eve’s desire would be for her husband. If you study this text you learn that it is not talking about a sexual desire but about controlling our husbands and household.
God has really been working on my heart w/ this subject. Our study in Sunday school right now is over marriages and how we are different and what are roles are under God.
I pray that I may glorify God in my marriage!
Thanks for the post!
:)

I have been struggling with praying for my husband, sometimes i se no change and feel I am the only one praying for us. I thank God for you and his words through you, it is a daily spiritual battle to always put 1st what pleasses the Lord in this fallen world. You have encouraged me adn with the same comfort I will comfort those around me and encourage my sisters to keep praying for their husbands even if it seems that no change has happen. God is faithful and he works in his timing not ours. Thank you once again. Becky C
