The Daily – The World is Watching

I am always left with a sour taste in my mouth when I see someone who claims to be a Christian, Christ Follower, etc., and they look no different that the unsaved people around them…or even worse…when I find myself doing the same! It truly saddens me…

We are the light of the world. We are the only Bible some people will ever read. We are living examples.

When we make poor choices, put our fleshly desires first or even blatantly ignore what we know is right, we are making our Beloved Savior look bad to a world that is indeed watching our every move. {Not to mention the children God gave us! They are watching too, dear sisters.}

Am I saying life should not be fun? Certainly not! LOL! However, we all have choices, and I believe deep down most of us (Christians) really do know when we are walking the line. We do. Seriously, if God is in us, then there MUST be conviction. However, the more we ignore that still small voice, the easier it is to make the wrong choices. The more we deny what is right, the less we hear it. Eventually we become so desensitized that we no longer even hear the voice! We move into “making excuses” and misquoting Scriptures to try and convince ourselves that it is OK. We spout words like “liberty in Christ”, “no condemnation” and so on…Sure, those references are true…in their proper place.

Liberty does not mean license.

We are still called to a higher standard. We are still set apart. We are still aliens in a dark world. We should in NO way look like carbon copies of this world.

Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. – 1 John 2:15 (amplified)

We should indeed look different. I do not mean look like a cuckoo bird. However, the world will respect what we have to say far more when they see that we live with conviction. When they see that we walk the walk and practice what we preach!

My point?

  • Make better choices.
  • Be willing to come under persecution for righteousness.
  • Pray about any and all decisions.
  • Set your mind, eyes and heart on Jesus.
  • Realize that our true treasure is not on this temporal earth…
  • Obey God’s Word and deny your flesh.

Live as children of obedience to God; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires that governed you in your former ignorance [when you did not know the requirements of the Gospel].

But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living.

For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy.

And if you call upon Him as your Father Who judges each one impartially according to what he does, then you should conduct yourselves with true reverence throughout the time of your temporary residence [on the earth, whether long or short]. – 1 Peter 1:14-17 (amplified)

Let’s Pray;

Daddy God, thank You for loving me. I need You, Lord. I cannot do this on my own. Help me to make right choices and bring glory and not shame to your Beloved Name. Help me to deny myself and live for You. Help me, Lord. I love You, Daddy and want nothing more than to hear “well done” at the end of my days. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

Homework:

Reflect on what you just read and the Scriptures. Think about how you are and have been living. Repent if needed and turn from it. Dust yourself off and move on! Jesus is calling you. You have a purpose for HIM in this life. RISE up and step into it!

Look up Scriptures using the following references to dig even deeper…

  • Obedience
  • Holy
  • Holiness
  • Flesh

Memorize: Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. – 1 John 2:15 (amplified)

    Great post. What I’ve been studying goes along with your point, our call to look different and shine. I just finished reading Hebrews 11 – the Hall of Faith – and was struck by the last couple of verses and the idea of our faith, like that of our predecessors in the Lord, leading to a good reputation, shining in the dark world.

    “All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection with out us.” Heb. 11:39-40 NLT

    Thanks for all you do!
