The Daily – an Admonishment and a Promise

Come close to God and He will come close to you. Recognize that you are sinners, get your soiled hands clean; realize that you have been disloyal; wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts of your spiritual adultery. – James 4:8 (amplified)

This is a powerful Scripture. It is a promise and an admonishment combined.

The Admonishment:

Do not be prideful; recognize that there is sin in your life and get rid of it. Repent. Turn from your sin. It is telling us to stop being a spiritual adulteress. We are being encouraged to let go of the flesh and submit to the will of the King.

Why?

For our own good and so we can obtain the promise!

The Promise:

The Creator of all things will make His camp with us.

You see, when we turn from our sin and draw near to Daddy, He comes close to us as well. He never walks away…WE do.

Something to Remember:

Sin is what keeps us from God. When we are walking in habitual and willful sin, we cannot be in right relationship with our King. It is impossible. We must recognize, repent (turn from it), and then climb up in Daddy’s lap. Then, and only then, can we find the peace our hearts are longing for.

What Sin, you ask?

Well, it can be…

  • a rebellious attitude
  • willful disobedience in an area of your life
  • pride
  • bitterness
  • unforgiveness
  • lust

The list goes on an on. We must get into the habit of doing regular “spiritual assessments”. We need to seek out spiritually fit and Biblically sound mentors to help us in our walk, and allow them to speak into our lives. It is the only way we can remain accountable for our actions…and thus receive the promise!

Let’s pray;

Daddy God, help me to see any sin in my life. Help me to never be so comfortable in my walk with You that I delude myself into thinking I have no sin. Help me to always remain accountable, ready and willing to repent and maintain a teachable spirit. I want my life to reflect You…not me! Help me, Daddy. I want to be in Your presence always and free from my own chains. I love You, Lord. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

It is so difficult to be REAL with others, but accountability is HUGE in the process of spiritual growth. Great post, as always. ((hugs))

I have been praying for someone to pray with and be accountable to for great maturity. I have been a Christian for 18 years and never had anyone. I have Christian friends but not that meet with me weekly.

What is sin? Yes all those things!

Good post and good reminder. Sin is sin whether others can see it or not. We need to keep our accounts clean. With sin in our lives it is very hard to rest in Jesus and to learn from Him (Come to Me all ye who labor and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me. For I am gentle and humble in heart).
