Faith and Business 101: New Years Checklist

Although I have ever since given up the infamous “New Years Resolution” I have found that the New Year is a wonderful time to set up goals. These are different than resolutions because a goal is something that you will continually try to work towards, something that it’s OK to “fall off the bandwagon” for and something to look back and reflect upon when the year ends. I encourage you to take the days after Christmas and before the first day of the new year and write down 3 business related goals for this year.

Be sure to write these down somewhere–whether it be a journal, sticky note, or blog post. Writing them down will help to solidify them to you. Either place them somewhere you will see them often, or somewhere like a blog post where you can pull them back up easily and have others to hold you accountable.

The first goal make something that you can start immediately, such as “work for 1 dedicated hour 3 times a week”. As you begin something small and achievable you will get an immediate sense of accomplishment and gratification.

The second goal use as a middle of the year mark, such as “by July 1, 2012 I want to have ____ number of Facebook Fans who are regularly interacting and purchasing from me” Choose an actual specific date so that when that time comes you can evaluate what you’ve been doing right. Choose a goal that is a high one, but attainable.

For the third goal set up where you would like to be at the end of the year and the main things you’d like to accomplish. This could be anything from the amount of sales you would like to bring in for the year, to adding 3 people to your team, to establishing yourself well within your new job.

Goals set in writing will help to guide your direction for the new year and help get you excited for all the possibilities it brings!
