Names of God – Jehovah Shammah

<–back to Names of God Main

The first thing I would just like to mention is that Jehovah is not actually a Hebrew word. It came later. The correct word is Yahweh. However, I use Jehovah for familiarity.

The distance around the city shall be 18,000 [4 x 4,500] measures; and the name of the city from that day and ever after shall be, THE LORD IS THERE. – Ezekiel 48:35 (amp)

THE LORD IS THERE(our future home a.k.a.: Heaven) came from the Hebrew words YHWH Shammah. (Note: read more about our future home here: Revelation 21:1-22:5)

I am looking forward to Heaven and being with my Lord. I am so happy that HE WILL BE THERE and I will spend eternity in the presence of His love. It is something that everyone who knows Jesus Christ will get to experience. It is something that my soul looks forward to!

Heaven is a place that we should be not only looking forward to, but we should be living our lives in light of our eternity. Our walks should be to store up treasure in our final home–not to put all of our focus on the ‘here and now’.

Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal. But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light. But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you [your conscience] is darkened, how dense is that darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in). – Matthew 6:19-24 (amp)

We will ALL give an account for our lives and how we lived. We should be very mindful of that and not allow this world to confuse us or lead us towards an apathetic life. How we live NOW will determine what our lives in Heaven will be!

For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for our sins–no further offering to which to look forward. There is nothing left for us then but a kind of awful and fearful prospect and expectation of divine judgment and the fury of burning wrath and indignation which will consume those who put themselves in opposition to God. Any person who has violated and thus rejected and set at naught the Law of Moses is put to death without pity or mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse (sterner and heavier) punishment do you suppose he will be judged to deserve who has spurned and thus trampled underfoot the Son of God, and who has considered the covenant blood by which he was consecrated common and unhallowed, thus profaning it and insulting and outraging the Holy Spirit Who imparts grace? For we know Him Who said, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay [I will exact the compensation], says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge and determine and solve and settle the cause and the cases of His people. It is a fearful (formidable and terrible) thing to incur the divine penalties and be cast into the hands of the living God! – Hebrews 10:26-31 (amp)

We don’t like to read these types of Scriptures. We tend to skim over them and refuse to see that there is more to Salvation than receiving. Once we have received, we need to REMAIN. YES…God WILL forgive us when we screw it all up. However, when we CHOOSE to walk in sin and WILLFULLY reject HIS Truth, we are walking a VERY dangerous line. We should be taking our Salvation seriously! Jesus loved us enough to Sacrifice His life and suffer much pain–shouldn’t we live our live to please Him?

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. – Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)

I was warned by God in a serious way. He made it very clear to me that the wages of sin is death and if I were to continue in my willful sin, I would NOT be happy with the results. You can read my story here.

Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God. For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap. – Galatians 6:7 (amp)

“Heaven is important, but it’s not the end of the world.” – NT Wright

I’ve found an amazing amount of new hope for what God has in store by reading “Surprised by Hope” by NT Wright. Great reminders here that we’re not just sitting around waiting to be taken away somewhere else. God calls us to be living proclamations of His Lordship even now, as we anticipate His “making all things new”!! :)

I thought you might enjoy this article called God is Near. We always seem to be waiting for something, but He is here…now. Isn’t that amazing!
