Did God Forget My Personal Force Field?

Sometimes I sit and wonder if  my standard issue personal force field, that comes with salvation,  needs to be sent back up for repair.  Or worse yet, the angels neglected to give me one.  How is your personal force field working?  Does it need a tune up?

Of course, there is no standard issue personal force field that comes with salvation.  I will admit when I first found Christ, I truly believed that somehow trials would cease to exist.  As I matured I realized that quite simply life goes on as usual.  The sun still goes up and comes down, my bills are still delivered, illness still occurs, and my car still gets a flat, even in the face of my secure eternal soul.  What is not the “usual” is my heart, my joy, and my security in Christ.   My surroundings may still be of old but my mind is renewed.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

An obstacle for many Christians is the concept of suffering after accepting Christ.  This is not confined to the newly saved but often occurs in even the most mature Christian.  Intellectually, we know that we will not be without trials in our lives.  However, when the most heartbreaking of trials knocks on a Christian’s door feelings of disappointment or anger toward God are common.  We wonder how a loving God who promises blessings and joy can allow such heartbreak to enter our lives.  Trials do not mean that God loves us less nor that we should loose joy in the hope that is Christ.  Suffering is not only unavoidable in this sinful world  but to be expected.

Beloved, do not be surprised as the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you. 1Peter 4:12

Be encouraged that God did provide a personal force field…the blood of Christ.  This force field allows trials to shape you and bring glory to God’s name and mercifully never allows anything you cannot handle.

I am reminded of a song by Natalie Grant called Held.

Who told us we’d be rescued?
What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares?
We’re asking why this happens
to us who have died to live,
it’s unfair.

Chorus:
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
and you survive.
This is what it is to be loved,
and to know that the promise was
when everything fell we’d be held.

This hand is bitterness.
We want to taste it, let the hatred know our sorrows.
The wise hands opens slowly to lilies of the valley and tomorrow.

Allow the Lord to hold you during trials instead of expending energy being angry or disappointed.  God has not forgotten His promises to you and He will not abandon you but show you His love more vividly during trying times.

Faith – What is it?

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

Today we will begin a series on FAITH. I asked God to help me, and this is what He gave me. So, I am sure it is a subject that He wants us to learn more about.

Hebrews 11 has a lot to say about faith. We will use it as our core of Scriptures. However, I am not limiting this study to Hebrews 11. We may jump around as the Spirit leads…

Let’s begin with the Biblical definition of faith:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

First, I want to look at substance and evidence in their original Greek.

Substance – hupostasis (hoop-os’-tas-is): assurance guarantee, reality, essebce, confidence, that which is the basis of something.

Evidence – elegchos (el’-eng-khos): proof, conviction, persuasion.

The Amplified Bible puts it nicely…

Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

And of course, the Webster’s dictionary definition…

Faithconfidence or trust in a person or thing.

We must have faith to even be a Christian. You must be believe that Jesus really is the Son of God, died on the cross for your sins, and rose on the third day. We were not there. We did not actually “see” all of this occur. However, we believe it. Why? Because we have FAITH in what the Word says. We have FAITH that our sins are forgiven and that Jesus is sitting at the Right Hand of the Father speaking on our behalf.

That is what faith is…believing without seeing. Now you know what faith means and that you HAVE a measure of faith.

(I bet you can’t wait to find out what’s next ;)

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for Your Truth. Thank You for giving me a measure of faith. Thank You for Your Son. Thank You for forgiving me of all my sins. Please help me to learn everything I can about faith so that I may put it into practice in my life. Thank You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith – In Action

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

More examples of people who lived by faith…

Hebrews 11:30-40 (KJV)

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

Imagine being told to march around an enemy city once every day for six days and then seven times on the seventh day and blow some trumpet…and the walls will fall?! That took some REAL faith!
(Joshua 6)

By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

She lived because of her faith.

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.

Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

Of whom the world was not worthy: they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

What more can I add? The author of Hebrews covered it all!

Faith works. Faith is what we are made of. Faith is the only way to move the mountains in your life. Faith…GREAT faith is available to ALL of God’s children. Faith MUST be developed and exercised for it to become strong faith. Without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God. You have it, sisters. It’s right there on the inside of you. All you need to do is TRUST and BELIEVE what your King says. Daddy NEVER lies and will NEVER leave you or forsake you. Who else can you say that about? Who better to put your trust in than the Creator of all things, Who calls you His very Own?!

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for Your Mighty and Powerful Word. Thank You for putting all of the information I need to live a peace and joy filled life. Thank You for giving me the ability to live victoriously. Thank You for calling me daughter. Please help me to learn how to put all that I learn into action. Help me to develop my faith. Thank You, Daddy. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith – Closing Thoughts

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

I would like to close the faith series with a couple final thoughts…

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:17 (KJV)

There must be action behind the faith. We must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The kind of faith mentioned in the Word is not for the world. It is for the children of God. It is a gift He gives us. What else can you call something that “moves mountains”? Put your faith into ACTION!

For we walk by faith, not by sight
2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)

Faith has nothing to do with our senses. We cannot rely on our eyes. They will ALWAYS lie. We must believe through the eyes of our faith. If we use our flesh eyes we will NEVER see anything other than the impossible. However, with God, ALL things are possible! FAITH is what moves God. Faith is what pleases God.

The next time you are exercising (believing) your faith, and you don’t “see” anything happening, remember, FAITH IS BELIEVING WITHOUT SEEING! Faith is TRUSTING God and BELIEVING what He says. Faith is what makes you a Christian! Without it, you could NEVER believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead and sits at the Right Hand of the Father!

WALK BY FAITH NOT BY SIGHT!!!

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, I have faith in You. I have faith that You created the Universe. I have faith that You love me. I have faith that You sent Your Son to die for me. I have faith that my sins are forgiven. I have faith in Your Word. Help me to exercise my faith in the areas that my senses deceive me. Help me to see things through the eyes of faith. Thank You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith – Makes Things Happen

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts…
Hebrews 11:4a (KJV)

I would like to start by looking at two words in their original Greek meanings…

Excellent - pleion (pli’-on): Figuratively of worth, importance, dignity, meaning more, greater, higher, to abound.

Testifying - martureo (mar-too-reh’-o): Emphatically, to testify strongly, bear honorable testimony, to be well testified about, to have good witness.

It wasn’t so much “what” they gave that made one better than the other. It was “how” they gave. Abel gave the first born of his sheep. That was a HUGE step of faith. Cain gave with the wrong heart and motive. He gave without faith. God was more pleased with Abel’s offering because of the FAITH behind it. He even went so far as to testify about it.

Can you imagine GOD speaking well about you? Can you imagine the King of Kings Himself bearing good witness about YOUR offering? Well, you don’t have to imagine, if you give by faith with a pure heart and motive.

We can give and give and give without ever pleasing God. Giving in and of itself is fine. However, when we give by FAITH, then we are going to a whole new level. Please don’t misunderstand me, you cannot just give to get. It’s not only a matter of faith, it’s a matter of the HEART. Faith is what will sow the seed properly. The right heart is what will help it to reap a good harvest.

I encourage you to pray about how you can give a “faith offering.” Do not limit yourself to “materialistic” things. You can offer your time or talents too. The point of the exercise is to help you to DEVELOP your faith. If you never use your faith, it will never become all that God intended it to be.

Keep this in mind…Not one person was healed by Jesus while He was here that did not already BELIEVE that He could heal them. Faith is what makes things happen!

I hope all this is making sense to you…

Let’s pray,

Daddy God, thank You for the gift of faith. Thank You for all that You want me to become. Help me to learn how to exercise and develop my faith. Help me to learn how to give faith offerings unto You. I know that You are my Abba Father. I know that You will provide ALL of my needs, because by faith, I believe what your Word says. And by faith, I know that You love me and want ONLY the best for me. Thank You, Daddy God. I love You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith – How Do I Get it?

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)

This is another example of FAITH that we already have. We must BELIEVE that God created the universe with His Words. We were not there…we did not see it….we believe WITHOUT seeing. We have FAITH.

How many of us have said, “I wish I had faith like so and so…” WE DO! We just need to learn how to develop and exercise our faith. It’s like working out. If you don’t exercise you will not be in “good shape.” On the other hand, when you exercise regularly, you feel better and you look better.

Over the course of this study we are going to learn a lot about FAITH. Today will be short and sweet…I want you to think about all of the FAITH that you already have. We mentioned two so far….your Salvation and Creation. Now, take some time throughout your day to think of how you are already exercising your FAITH. Once you begin to realize it’s already there, we can begin to learn more about how FAITH works…

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank YOU for creating such a beautiful world full of color for me to enjoy. Thank You for Your Word and Your love. Help me to see all of the ways that I am already exercising my FAITH in. Help me to realize that FAITH is not this unobtainable “thing” I will never have enough of. Show me how much I already have and how much MORE I can be using. Thank YOU! In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith – God is a Rewarder

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder to them that diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

We know that we cannot please God without faith. We can’t even be a Christian without faith. Besides Christ of course, faith is the foundation Christianity. You cannot even become a Christian without believing in something you have never actually seen. You become a Christian by faith.

I really want to focus on the second part of this Scripture today.

…He is a rewarder to them that diligently seek Him.

Diligently and seek come from the same Greek word, ekzeteo (ek-zay-teh’-o) and mean; investigate, crave. To seek diligently or earnestly after, namely God, with a sincere and earnest desire to obtain His favor.

I also looked up a couple words in the Webster’s Dictionary…

Diligently - constant and earnest effort and application; attentive and persistent in doing something.

Earnest - serious in intention, purpose, or effort; sincerely zealous.

We forget that God is a REWARDER. When we dive into the Word and seek His Face consistently and with zeal, He will reward us. He is our Daddy in Heaven, and like any parent (although He is the BEST), He wants to reward His children.

Our motive cannot be to get “stuff” from God. Otherwise, we aren’t really seeking Him, we treating Him more like a genie in a bottle. And God does not participate in those types of games.

I thought it would be interesting to look at the flip side of the Greek word ekzeteo. There are three words I found in my Greek dictionary that are its antonyms.

ameleoto neglect.

oligoreoto regard or esteem lightly

paratheoreoto overlook.

You see, we will ALWAYS reap what we sow. If we sow His Word into our hearts, we will reap; joy, peace, wisdom, comfort, life, prosperity, healing, happiness, and a love that we can find NO where else. However, if we neglect our Beloved and overlook His place in our lives, we will be sowing a selfish seed to the flesh. And we will reap; sadness, loneliness, incompleteness, death, sickness, and poverty. We will NEVER be truly filled until we put HIM FIRST in our hearts, minds, and lives!

I encourage you to make time for your God. Make Him THE priority in your life. When you do…when you REALLY do, you will NEVER be the same. And you will be GLAD that you’re not.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for Your Truth. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for giving me so many reasons to love You. Thank You for wanting to know me and wanting me to seek You. Thank You for creating me with a purpose. I love You, Lord. I want nothing more than to know You better and be all that You created me to be. Help me to know You better. Thank You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith at Work, part 2

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

Hebrews 11:17-29 (KJV)

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

Abraham loved and trusted God more than anything. He knew that God would NEVER go back on His Word. So, He was willing to sacrifice Isaac, because he knew that God would make a way to keep His promise. He was a GREAT man of faith. How many of us would be willing to exercise that kind of faith?

By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

These men looked to the future by faith. They knew that better days were coming. They didn’t have to “see,” they simply had faith.

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

Moses was a wonderful example of faith at work. He left the comforts of the palace to fulfill the call of God. He dealt with an ungodly king and a bunch of complainers. He was treasured by God because he BELIEVED God. He put down his staff and parted the red sea by faith. He believed what God had told him. He lived by faith!

Next time we will see more examples of faith. I just want to encourage you to trust in the One Who created all things. Any one of us can have the kind of faith that moves mountains. It is already living on the inside of us. We just need to believe and exercise it.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, I just want to lift up Your Holy Name today. You are a Mighty God. You are a Loving God. You are Worthy of ALL the glory, honor, and praise. You are the First and the Last. You are the Beginning and the End. You are the great I Am. You are Merciful and Kind. I am honored and humbled by Your love for me. Thank You, my precious Daddy for loving and caring for me. Thank You. Bless the Name of my God, Who Reigns FOREVER! Holy is the Lord God Almighty. Praise You! In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith at Work, part 1

<– Back to Faith Devotional Series Main

Hebrews 11:7-16 (Amplified Translation)

Prompted by faith Noah, being forewarned by God concerning events of which as yet there was no visible sign, took heed and diligently and reverently constructed and prepared an ark for the deliverance of his own family. By this, his faith which relied on God, he passed judgment and sentence on the world’s unbelief and became an heir and possessor of righteousness (that relation of being right into which God puts the person who has faith).

Can you imagine being the ONLY family building this ark? This was MAJOR faith working.

Urged on by faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went forth to a place which he was destined to receive as an inheritance; and he went, although he did not know or trouble his mind about where he was to go.

Abraham had no idea where he was going. However, he CHOSE to believe God.

Prompted by faith he dwelt as a temporary resident in the land which was designated in the promise of God, though he was like a stranger in a strange country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs with him of the same promise.

For he was waiting expectantly and confidently, looking forward to the city which has fixed and firm foundations, whose Architect and Builder is God.

He NEVER gave up. He did not allow his faith to waiver!

Because of faith also Sarah herself received physical power to conceive a child, even when she was long past the age for it, because she considered God, Who had given her the promise to be reliable and trustworthy and true to His word.

So from one man, though he was physically as good as dead, there have sprung descendants whose number is as the stars of heaven and as countless as the innumerable sands on the seashore.

Can you imagine the faith it took for an old woman to give birth? Sarah exercised her faith while she carried and delivered Isaac. She was a REAL Mom of Faith!

These people all died controlled and sustained by their faith, but not having received the tangible fulfillment of God’s promises, only having seen it and greeted it from a great distance by faith, and all the while acknowledging and confessing that they were strangers and temporary residents and exiles upon the earth.

They did not need to ever “see” the promises with their natural eyes. They walked in the spirit and had faith. They took God at His Word. They knew and understood that God does what He says he will do!

Now those people who talk as they did show plainly that they are in search of a fatherland (their own country).

If they had been thinking with [homesick] remembrance of that country from which they were emigrants, they would have found constant opportunity to return to it.

But the truth is that they were yearning for and aspiring to a better and more desirable country, that is, a heavenly [one]. For that reason God is not ashamed to be called their God [even to be surnamed their God--the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob], for He has prepared a city for them.

They are the TRUE example of aliens. They understood that they were not of this world. By faith they saw a better place that God had for them. They looked on by faith to their true home. They did not need to “see” it, they BELIEVED GOD!

We can ALL learn a lot about faith and trust in the Word. There are MANY examples who lived before us. We can see how they exercised their faith, and how they NEVER wavered in their faith.

We cannot allow our senses to rule us. We must live our lives by faith. We must BELIEVE what God says. When we get this into our thick sculls, we will finally be getting somewhere in our Christian walk! We we no longer be weak and fragile…we will be STRONG and fight for the Kingdom by FAITH!

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for loving me. Thank You for giving me Your Living Word as a blueprint on how to live my life. Help me to walk in faith. Help me to exercise my faith and believe the unseen. Help me to develop my faith, so that I may be a living witness to my children. I want them to KNOW and understand Your ways. I want to walk it out before them. Give me the strength and courage to do so. Thank You, Abba Father. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Faith – Series Devotional

<– Back to Main Devotional Section

Before we begin the review I would like to share another Scripture that the Lord has put on my heart concerning faith….

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Romans 10:17 (KJV)

In order for our faith to develop and grow properly, we must “water” it with the Word. Getting the Word in us will remind us of all the reasons to trust God and all of the promises that we are entitles to.

I encourage you to write down the faith Scriptures that we have gone over and remind yourself frequently of what God has done, is doing, and will do. Review what faith did for our brothers and sisters in the Bible. Let the Word come alive on the inside of you, and then you will acquire GREAT FAITH!

FAITH Series Devotional at a Glance:

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You again for the gift of faith. Help me to remember and act upon all that I have learned. Help me to develop my faith. Reveal Yourself to me through Your Word, and send Your Holy Spirit to remind me of the Truth when my faith even hints of wavering. Thank You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)
