Flesh v/s Spirit – Wrath, Strife

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Today, we will study two more symptoms of a carnal fleshly lifestyle. As usual we will take a look at some of the original Greek text.

Wraththumos (thoo-mos’): fierceness

The dictionary meaning for fierceness is vehement hostility and unrestrained violence. A brutally harsh bully.

It may seem that a nice Christian Mother couldn’t possibly manifest these behaviors. That assumption would be wrong. Very wrong. Just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean you don’t have issues with sin. However, you should always be in a growing process. You should actively be seeking guidance and pastoral counseling as well as diving into the Word and seeking the face of God.

That being said there are many Christian women that have violent tempers. You may be a woman like myself who likes to slam doors and things around when your angry. You may be a Mother who is too harsh with your children and instead of spanking them in love you beat them in anger. You may be a woman that gets violent with your husband. Yes, there are many women who do.

No matter how mild or extreme your violent anger is, it is wrong. You are sinning. Anger itself is not sin. What turns anger into sin is when we yell, swear, or get violent in any way. Our husbands are to be respected not bullied by a controlling and domineering wife. Our children deserve better. Much better. Every time we lose control and blow up we are setting them up for failure in their own lives. That is totally not fair. Why should they suffer for our baggage? I wrote an article called, A Mother’s Battle. It deals with the subject of righteous anger, sinful anger, where it comes from, and how to prevent the outbursts from ever occurring. If you or someone you know is dealing with anger this may be helpful.

If you know that you are someone who leans more on the extreme side, and you are afraid you may hurt your children, you MUST get help immediately. God loves you and wants to heal you from the inside out. He is not angry with you. He wants you to repent and seek help. I suggest Christian counseling. The world deals with problems without God. Christian counselors are not only going to help you in a medical way, but help heal you spiritually too.

Strifeerethizo (er-eth-id’-zo) or eritheia (er-ith-i’-ah): to stimulate to anger, provoke, contention

The key word here is provoke. We should never provoke our children to the point of anger. It’s one thing if they have a chore to do or are being grounded for something, and they get angry. It is quite another if we tease, pick on, verbally abuse them, or treat them badly. They will grow up filled with rage.

Our children are not our emotional punching bags. Verbal abuse can be equally if not more damaging to them than physical abuse. Words are extremely powerful. They leave scars that may never fully go away. I know this because I still hear the abusive words of my Mother ringing in my head from time to time. There is nothing more painful to a child than for them to think they are unloved, unimportant, stupid, worthless, ugly, or unable to live up to their Mother and Father’s expectations.

The same article I mentioned above may be helpful to you as well. Here is the link again: A Mother’s Battle.

Sinful anger is an extremely destructive force. No matter how mild you “think” your anger problem might be, it is destructive. As Christian Mothers we must model right behavior for our children. Every time we use our anger in a hurtful way we are being very selfish. We are putting our own disappointments, feelings, and hurts before the needs of our precious gifts from God. We are accountable before Him to train them up in His love and His ways.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, Please help me with my anger. Help me to not sin when I am angry. Show me when my anger is sinful and selfish. Help me not to harm my children. And please forgive me for any physical or emotional harm I have ever caused them. I also ask that any harmful memories or hurtful words I have ever said be completely erased from their little minds forever. Thank You for making all things new and every day a new beginning. I want my life to model You and Your Love. I will live my life as a testimony to Your loving ways. And finally, Lord, when I even begin to step out into the flesh zone please convict me strongly. Thank You my Precious Lord. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Witchcraft

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

WITCHCRAFT

Our society takes witchcraft very lightly. I urge you to do a deeper study into this subject than what we will do today. Witchcraft is a serious thing. It has many layers.

The most common are what you are probably thinking; spells, chants, sorcery, astrology, and other forms if divination. Our society, including many Christians, encourage our children to read “literature” and watch movies that have varying degrees of witchcraft in them. It is to be expected from the secular world. However, for the Church to be so desensitized about this subject is quite alarming.

There are Christians that read their horoscopes on a daily basis and think it harmless. They talk about what “sign” they are. The only “sign” that Christians should be talking about is the one that leads to the Cross. God has made it clear in many Biblical examples His feelings on these matters. Here are a few you can look up for yourself; Saul, Solomon, the book of Leviticus, Jezebel, and Israel.

If is unfair and very dangerous to allow and in some cases encourage our precious children to be comfortable with spells, incantations, chants, sorcery, horoscopes, astrology, and any form of witchcraft. It is NOT harmless. It is not only the equivalent of spiritual adultery it is an abomination to God. We must not stand blindly by while our children are becoming less and less bothered by this with each passing generation. I mean think about it, if the world embraces something so widely shouldn’t that be a sign to the Church to be aware.

The world cannot be our guide.

The WORD of the Living God must be our only and FINAL authority!

Witchcraft is more than just what is mentioned above. God also compares rebellion and stubbornness to witchcraft in I Samuel 15:23.

I urge you to pray hard and consistent about this matter. Study the Scriptures about it. Seek God’s Wisdom. He gave you your children to train up in His ways. Make sure you are and not letting the world influence you. Your children need to know that You stand for God’s Truth and what God thinks of witchcraft.

Don’t be foolish and think it’s just harmless “fantasy.” There is nothing harmless or fantasy about witchcraft. The devil is very real. And he wants our children. Remember, the Word tells us that we fight not with flesh and blood, but with powers and principalities in high places. The spirit realm is a very real place and if your dealing with satan’s end of it your playing with fire.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, show me more of Your Truth on the matter of witchcraft. Help me to discern what is right and wrong in Your eyes. Help me to protect my children from the world’s influence. Help me to know and recognize the Truth. Lord, I want to train my children up in Your ways. I want my children to know Your ways and understand what you think of witchcraft. Thank you, Lord for loving me and giving me Your Word to help and guide me in this uncertain world. I love You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Temperance

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV

Temperance

This will be a fun one…In the original Greek temperance is egkrateia (eng-krat’-i-ah) and means SELF CONTROL.

We have a choice in everything. God did not create us to be puppets on a string. He gave us freedom of choice. Not only to accept Jesus as our Savior but in how we conduct ourselves in life. “The devil made me do it” is a bunch of bologna. The devil can not “make” you do anything. The only thing that he can do is tempt us. It is then our choice to resist temptation or give in. It is definitely our choice all the way.

When we choose to lose control we have chosen to sin. It does not have to be that way. Once we become saved we have power over sin in our lives. We no longer have to give in to the desires of the flesh. That is why self control is a fruit of the spirit. It is a character trait that we develop as we exercise our position in Christ and obey God. I strongly recommend that you read Romans 6. Paul went into great details of our freedom from sin.

Choosing Self Control

  • When our husbands annoy us, we can choose to let it go and remember how much we love them.
  • When our husbands want to be the leaders of the home we, we can choose to obey God and let them and stop being Miss Bossy and Miss Control Freak.
  • When our husbands make a mistake, we can choose to show them grace and forgiveness instead of flying off the handle.
  • When our children drive us nuts, we can choose to show them love and mercy instead of screaming and yelling.
  • When life gets rough, we can choose to trust in the One Who loves us more than His own life and believe what His Word says.
  • When temptation comes knocking, we can choose to avoid it and even run from it instead of giving in and saying I just can’t…

Everything has two sides. Everything in life is a choice. You can be born in the ghetto and still become the president of a multi million dollar company. If you choose to push and strive and make the right choices. You can be in poverty and still come up with a million dollar idea.

It’s all about choices and determination. You can do ANYTHING you want to. God’s Word says that He will keep no good thing from us. And He doesn’t. We do. We make the wrong choices. We say the wrong things. We make the choice. We do.

No matter where you are in life or what your struggles are, you can make a decision right now to make your life better simply by making better choices every day. Self control is getting control of your anger, hurts, past mistakes, bitterness, poverty, self pity, unhappiness, and choosing to lay it all at the foot of the cross. Then picking yourself up (sometimes daily) and moving forward and choosing to take your life and attitudes in a new direction. The direction that God has already planned out and paved for you. All you have to do is choose to walk it.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for giving me a choice. Thank You for having a wonderful plan for my life. Help me to begin to see that plan, Lord. Help me to make better choices with my words and attitudes. Help me to make better choices with my finances and decisions. Help me to acknowledge You in all of my choices and become all that You created me to be and to have. Thank You for Your precious love and mercy. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Seditions, Heresies

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Today, we will discuss the final two symptoms of a carnal fleshly lifestyle. I saved them for last because I think it is a huge problem in the Church.

Seditionsdichostasia (dee-khos-tas-ee’-ah): disunion, dissension, division

Heresieshairesis (hah’-ee-res-is): disunion

It is very sad to me that there is so much division in the Church today. I know that it is not pleasing to God. It does not give the Church any credibility to the world either. The dissension is widespread like a deadly disease. It makes us crippled and ineffective. There are a few areas that I want to touch on…

Denominational Differences

It is almost like high school. You have the popular kids, the junkies, the nerds, the jocks…In the Church we have the Pentecostal, the Baptists, the Methodists….you get the point. It is ridiculous to argue about insignificant things. The most important things we all agree on…

God sent Jesus to earth to die for the sins of man. Jesus lived a sinless life and died an undeserving violent death for our sins. He rose again on the third day and sits at the right hand of the Father. To receive Salvation you must believe what I just said. We all believe that Jesus will be back and we must LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Finally and most importantly we should not only tell others of this so they may be saved we should live our lives as a witness to Gods Great Mercy and Love.

Everything else is up for debate. Who cares? Peace is what we should be striving for…not who is more right. That is pride. That is why the Church is a joke and virtually powerless today. It is very very sad.

Other Christians

Offence. It is another crippling action in the Church. Someone offends another and dissension takes it’s ugly root. Sides are taken. Lines are drawn. More high school. I say GROW UP! Practice mercy and forgive…or you will not be forgiven. Not my words, God’s. It may sound harsh, but it’s the truth and I will not water it down.

Leadership

There are churches today that suffer great problems. Pastors having affairs and getting divorced, boards, opinions, poor leadership, lack of leadership, uninvolved members, disunion in the leadership and the body, the list goes on…

We must not gossip about these things and have discussions that are unhealthy and not helping these situations. We must pray and PRAY HARD! We must edify and speak life intro these situations and save the judging for God. Because as soon as we start pointing our finger and judging another…look out…judgment will be coming our way.

In closing, the most important thing is to love and forgive. No matter what. We can not, we MUST not have dissension in the Church. We must take back the Church from the enemy and not allow him to make us a bunch of judgmental, hypocritical, ineffective pew warmers. Stand up and make a difference. Let your light shine and shine bright!

Let’s pray,

Daddy God, please help me to be quick to forgive, and the first to show grace, love and mercy in any and all situations. Convict me strongly when I even think about judging another. And Daddy, show me how I can start making a difference right now. Remind me when I forget. Quicken my spirit to pray when it is needed. Thank you Daddy God. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Peace

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV

PEACE

The Greek word for peace is – eirene (i-ray’-nay): peace, quietness, rest. The Webster’s dictionary defines it as freedom from anxiety, annoyance, or other mental disturbances. A state of tranquility or serenity.

Sounds great. How can I get some? Right? Well, from what I have been studying in the Word for this devotional this kind of peace is a gift from God and a choice to receive. We must choose to have this kind of peace. It is already ours. It has already been given.

Jesus used the same word for peace several times in the Word. In John 14:27 He said, Peace I leave you; My own peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

He said it right there. Do not let… It is our choice to let our hearts be troubled and lose our peace. We do not have to. Jesus already gave us the peace. We must by faith believe that we already have it and not “let” ourselves lose our peace.

A couple chapters later Jesus says in John 16:33, …in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer! For I have overcome the world. I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.

YEAH! All we have to do is believe what He said and receive it. You may think that it sounds almost too simple. Well, to be honest with you, most things in the Word are. I think that is why so many of us have trouble receiving it. We are so used to the world we live in. We are used to everything having a thorough explanation and the Word is just the opposite. God speaks simply so that we may understand and be able to walk in victory.

When the enemy comes to rob your peace you must stand firm and know that it is yours and he cannot take it from you without your consent.

Here are some Scriptures for you to look up, study, and learn so that you can keep the peace that God has already given you.

  • Romans 8:6
  • Ephesians 2:14
  • Colossians 3:15
  • II Timothy 2:22
  • Hebrews 12:14
  • James 3:18
  • I Peter 3:11

Remember, peace is already yours. Jesus said it. God cannot lie. You can know that it is the Truth. His Truth. You must by faith believe what He says and receive what He has already given you. The only way you are going to do that is to get the Word in you. So that when the enemy comes knocking you can slam the door in his slimy little face.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You so much for leaving me peace. Thank You that I do not have to live without it ever. Help me to receive the gift You have given me. Help me to memorize Your Truths and slam the door when the devil comes to steal the peace that You have already given me. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Murders, Revellings

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

I want to get the next two symptoms of a carnal fleshly lifestyle out of the way. I am assuming that they are not a huge problem to my readers, so today’s devotion will be shorter than usual.

Murders

It means exactly that. Obviously, if someone gets angry enough they can commit murder. I would hope that what we have already discussed about anger would encourage you to do the things that prevent it. Then you will never commit murder.

However, do not be deceived into thinking that you could never do anything like this. Oh, yes you could. Anyone could. That is why no matter how mild or severe your anger issues may be they still need to be submitted under the authority of Jesus Christ. Any one who has serious violent outbursts that inflict pain on another should seek help immediately. They are capable of going this far at any time.

Revellings

komos (ko’-mos): a carousal (as if letting loose) – rioting

There have been many people who claim to be Christians that have been involved in riots.

One example is “right to life” groups who are against abortion. Now, I do not believe in abortion. I think that life begins at conception. Unfortunately, many Christians take their beliefs too far. I have read where rocks were thrown at doctors, and buildings being burned…You cannot bully someone into doing what’s right. Jesus taught us to love. There will be wicked in this world until the day Jesus breaks through the eastern sky. I think peaceful demonstrations and other options are fine.

However, when it gets to the point where anger is the motivation and things get out of control we are making our Beloved Savior look bad to the world. We are not going to get any positive results.

A couple more examples where things can get out of control…Parties where things can get out of control because of drinking and even drugs, dislike for another race, politics…any situation that can lead to an angry riot or that kind of behavior should be avoided by all Christians.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank you for giving me Your Word to help guide me. Help me to never take my anger so far that I harm someone or bring dishonor to Your Son’s Precious Name. I love You, Lord. I want my life to reflect Your Love and Tender Mercies. Thank You for all the Love you give me and all the Mercy I never deserved. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Meekness, part 2

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV

MEEKNESS

The original Greek word for meekness is praos (prah’-os) and means gentle, humble, gentleness

Last time, we talked about the gentle side of meekness as a parent. Today, we will talk a bit more about gentleness and also about being humble.

Now that we understand the importance of gentle parenting we should also understand that it does not stop there. We must manifest gentleness towards our husbands, friends, strangers, family, and so on. We must conduct ourselves with a gentle and merciful attitude and speech. Harshness is something that no Christian’s conduct. We must remember that we reap what we sow. If we sow harshness we will reap harshness. If we sow kindness, mercy, and gentleness…we will receive kindness, mercy, and gentleness.

Let’s look at the other part of Meekness.

Humbleness

Humbleness is the opposite of pride. Pride is a very destructive force in a persons life. There are several Scriptures I would like to showcase where wise Solomon explains the destructive power of pride…

Proverbs 11:2 - When swelling and pride come, then emptiness and shame come also, but the humble (those who are lowly, who have been pruned or chiseled by trial, and renounce self) are skillful and godly Wisdom and soundness.

Proverbs 13:10 - By pride and insolence comes only contention…

Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 29:23 - A mans pride will bring him low, but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor.

Here are a couple more you can look up later; Mark 7:20-23, I Timothy 3:6, and I John 2:16.

When we develop a high opinion of ourselves and our abilities we are stepping into extremely dangerous territory. We must never allow ourselves to go there. We must always remember that we are nothing without Christ. Without Him we have no talents, happiness, comfort, joy, reason, Salvation, we have nothing. We may as well be dead without Him. For with Him and in Him is where our strength and abilities come. Through Him we are able to withstand the evil attacks of the enemy. But, without Him we are NOTHING.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for all of the wonderful gifts, talents, material items, children, family, and beauty all around that You have given to me. Thank You that through You I can do all things. And help me to NEVER forget that without You, I can do NOTHING. Thank You, Precious Lord. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Meekness, part 1

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV

MEEKNESS

The original Greek word for meekness is praos (prah’-os) and means gentle, humble, gentleness

This is a very important character trait to develop as a Mother. We have the power to make or break our children. If we are harsh, unaffectionate, belittling, verbally abusive, dictating, and unkind to our children, they will grow up messed up. They will be fearful, unstable, untrusting, insecure, and have a low self esteem.

We must speak gently with our children. It is a sign of immaturity to yell to get your point across. It shows a lack of self control (yesterday’s topic) and it teaches them to behave the same way. If your child is disobedient, yelling isn’t going to get them in line long term. It may scare them into “performance” but in the long run it will make them resentful and hard hearted adults.

You can get your point across by speaking in a regular voice with authority. And if you follow through in your parenting, your children will automatically know that you mean business. They will learn to speak like an adult when they become adults. They will mirror whatever you decide to teach them by example.

It is also very important that we tell them that we love them EVERY day. More than once!

We must be gentle with our children. They need to be touched. They need you to run your fingers through their hair, hug them, kiss them, snuggle with them, pat them on the back, and hold their hand. It is very important to their emotional development. It teaches them how to love and be loved properly.

We must behave gently with our children. When they make a childish mistake we must be sure to make sure that the punishment fits the crime.

What do I mean?

If your child spills something, spanking them is NOT the appropriate punishment.

There should be no punishment at all. The only reason we get angry over this kind of stuff is a selfish, self centered anger. We have to clean it up or some material thing we owned was soiled or ruined. In a situation like this, we should simply tell the child to be more careful and move on. It was a childish mistake. They are children. We need to let them be children. If you have a child that seems to be a bit klutzy and spill frequently you still do not need to enforce punishment. Depending on their age you can make them clean it up each time (you don’t need to yell this at them…just tell them matter of fact) or you could have some kind of positive reinforcement…Be creative. It is your job to be a good parent. Like it or not it is what you were called to be. So be it!

If your child does something that is a definite wrong, such as; lie, cheat, steal, show disrespect, or disobey a direct order.

You will need to punish them. However, you do not need to yell or be harsh. You simply set the rules in the home and the appropriate punishment for each offence and when they cross the line you are matter of fact with them. You talk to them like a person. They will learn to be disciplined adults.

We must also make sure that we are remembering the age factor. Just because you can have an intelligent conversation with your eight year old does not mean they are adults or reason like one. They are still children and we must never forget that. They are not adults and those who try to make their children “grow up” or tell them to “act their age” are fools. They are acting their age and they will grow up when the are supposed to. When God designed for that to happen.

We will study more on meekness next lesson. Until then…

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for the precious child(ren) you have given me. Thank You for entrusting them to me. Please help me to train them up in the way they should go. Please help me to show them the gentleness and mercy that You bestow on me every day. Please help me to speak gentler and act gentler towards them. Help me to model what a Christian adult should act like. Please help me to walk in the spirit as a Mother. Thank You, Daddy God. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Love

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV

LOVE

The original Greek word for Love in this text is agape (ag-ah’-pay): love, affection, a love feast, dear love.

I believe that if we take the time to really know God in a personal way through studying His Word and an active prayer life we can cultivate this kind of love in our lives.

I believe that when we have truly submitted our wills to God and allow ourselves to be rooted and grounded in Love, all of the manifestations of the flesh begin to diminish. When we really get this love thing and live it out, then all of the other fruits are naturally there. For if we have love, we lack nothing. When we get to a place where Jesus is truly Lord over our thoughts, actions, and lives we start shedding our fleshly behaviors and desires. We begin to have a mind like Christ. We begin to want what He wants. We begin to grow more fruit than weeds.

The only way to get to that place is to actively pursue God. If all we do is show up for church once or twice a week, and do our nursery duty, say our little amen’s here and there, we are useless, and poor examples for the One Who died for our sins.

We must choose to have an actual relationship with God. Now, I don’t believe in set formulas. Everyone is different and everyone has a different schedule and lifestyle. However, we should all spend time with God every day. It does not matter if it is five minutes or five hours. The point is that we are wanting a relationship with Him and pursuing it the best we can.

Think about it this way…

Would you only feed your body once or twice a week? No, of course not! We stuff our faces every day! Don’t you think our spirits should be fed daily?

Every day we should:

PRAY – This is something you can do under your breath all day long. You don’t need some dramatic place and planned out script every day. I think we should have structured prayers that include; praise, worship, thankfulness, prayer for others, and prayer for ourselves. However, there may be days you only have time for what I like to call, “the on the go prayers.” God is not offended. God is happy that we want to share our day with Him. I include Him in my grocery shopping, shows I want to watch, cooking dinner, etc. The point is talk to Him! Every day!

READ THE WORD – Not every one has an hour or two a day to spend in the Word. We all have some time though. Even five minutes. It is the best five minutes you will ever spend. It is your life source. It is the ONLY way to really know Who God is and His wonderful character.

If you are just starting out, I would suggest reading Psalms and/or Proverbs. They are great books and are filled with Life. Try memorizing one verse a week. Once you master that try two…and so on. It takes practice to study the Word. There may be days you feel like nothing was gained. But, I promise you did. You just don’t know it…yet. Trust me. I’ve been there.

PRAISE and THANKSGIVING – You can listen to some praise music while driving, cooking, cleaning, or exercising. Believe it or not, when we listen to Christian music it does wonders for our entire being. It renews our mind with the things of God. It reminds us to be thankful. It makes us want to praise the Lord. Find some good Christian music in the style that you like and cut loose. Anything that the world has, God has and then some.

When we begin to do all these things on a regular basis, we will begin to see major changes in our minds, attitudes, talk, and lives. Then all of a sudden we will have this big piece of fruit sticking out of our chest. The fruit of Love. The fruit that helps all the other fruit grow. The first and most important fruit. LOVE.

Let’s pray,

Daddy God, I want to thank You for Your Word. Thank You for loving me even when I am unlovable. Help me to get to know You better and more fully. Show me Who You are. I want to have a closer walk with You. I want to know You more and more every day. Thank You. I praise Your Holy and Precious Name. You are Worthy of all my praise. I love You, Daddy God. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)

Flesh v/s Spirit – Longsuffering

<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV

LONGSUFFERING

The original Greek word for longsuffering is makrothumia (mak-roth-oo-mee’-ah) and means, forbearance, fortitude, patience, patiently

I want to look at the dictionary meanings for the following…

Patience ~ The bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain with out complaint, loss of temper, or anger. Quiet steady perseverance; even tempered.

Forbearance ~ Patient endurance, self control. An obstaining from the enforcement of a right.

Fortitude ~ Mental and emotional strength in facing adversity, danger, or temptation.

I don’t know about you, but patience is not my strong point. However, God gives us the ability to have these things. We can have patience when we ask for it. The problem is that we don’t realize that our answer requires us to “be” patient.

Let me explain…We ask for patience. God gives us children. After we get them we look up to Heaven and beg God to give us patience with these children. We don’t realize that the children are the answer. Children are one way that God uses to teach us patience. We cannot get patience without the lessons. We must learn patience. Once we embrace that we will see progress in the area of patience in our lives.

Another way that God gives us lessons in patience is through trials and adversity. The way to pass these lessons is to go through them without complaint. We must train ourselves to go through the storms not fight them.

You must understand that we all already have the fruits of the spirit available to us. In order to see them manifested In our lives we must submit to God. In the case of longsuffering (patience) we must embrace our difficulties and go through them without complaint. We must understand that they will only last a season and we will make it to the other side. It will go MUCH quicker if we go through it with patient endurance.

I have used the Israelites in the past. They took 40 years to take an 11 day trip! Why? Murmuring and complaining.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for Your Word of Truth. Thank You that You have given me the strength to endure. I pray that You help me to recognize opportunities to be quiet and endure. Help me to see and understand when You are trying to teach me the very thing I beg for. I love You, Lord. I want my life to shine for You. Thank You so much for choosing me to be Your very own. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)
