<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Idolatry – putting any person, thing, or activity before God and our responsibilities as wives and Mothers.
We are still talking about idolatry. People and activities can become idols in our lives. It is very easy to slip into. We don’t even realize that it is happening. We don’t pay attention and then before you know it we have created your own personal idol. Remember, any activity or person that is placed above God in your heart and life is an idol.
Any activity or person that is placed above our God given call to be wives and Mothers is an idol in our life. It is idolatry.
Let’s look at some more Scriptures about Idolatry…
I Corinthians 10:12-14 ~ Let anyone who thinks he stands [who feels sure that he has a steadfast mind and is standing firm] take heed lest he fall into sin. For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing sin, no matter how it comes or where it leads) has overtaken you that is not common to man (beyond human resistance). But God is faithful, and He can be trusted not to let you be tempted and tried beyond your ability to to endure, but with the temptation He will always provide a way out, that you may be capable and strong to bear up under it patiently. Therefore, my dearly beloved, shun (keep clear away from, avoid by flight if need be) any sort of idolatry (of loving anything or venerating anything more than God).
There is no stronghold in our life that we cannot over come. If the temptation to sin in the form of idolatry comes we can escape. Our escape can be leaving the computer to play with our children. Our escape can be telling our friend we have things to do and can’t chat now. (Depending on the circumstance and situation the escape will be different. These were just a couple of examples.) We must pay attention. God does not pull out a mighty bull horn and blow it in our ears. It is a still quiet voice that will speak. So, we must listen for it.
I John 5:21 ~ Little children, keep yourselves from idols, from anything and everything that would occupy the place in your heart due God, from any sort of substitute for Him that would take first place in your life.
Like I shared in part one, nothing or no one should be more important to us than God. Jesus should be our first love. Our first priority. If we put the Lord first and make Him Lord, then we will automatically be awesome wives and Mothers. We will not have room for self made idols in our lives. The Lord will already be occupying our hearts and minds.
II Corinthians 10:4-5 ~ For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. KJV
Remember, sin begins as a thought. So, if we do not have God first in our lives our thoughts will not be centered on Him and His ways. Our thoughts will be on self. On sin. On whatever our weaknesses are. We must make Him first and use our weapons (the Word) and get keep our thought life in alignment with God. It is impossible to get our thoughts lined up without knowing His Word and living it. That is how we even know who God is and His character.
Let’s pray;
Daddy God, please help me to lay down (fill in the blank). I know that (it, he, or she) has become too important to me. I want to put You first in my life. Right now, I submit my mind to You, my heart to You, and my will to You. Help me to lay my thoughts and desires at Your feet every day. Help me to submit to You and Your ways daily. Thank You. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
You may have more than one thing. If you do repeat. And do this as often as necessary.
In His Love and Service,
Lara ;)
