<–back to Flesh v/s Spirit Main
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
I want to get the next two symptoms of a carnal fleshly lifestyle out of the way. I am assuming that they are not a huge problem to my readers, so today’s devotion will be shorter than usual.
Murders
It means exactly that. Obviously, if someone gets angry enough they can commit murder. I would hope that what we have already discussed about anger would encourage you to do the things that prevent it. Then you will never commit murder.
However, do not be deceived into thinking that you could never do anything like this. Oh, yes you could. Anyone could. That is why no matter how mild or severe your anger issues may be they still need to be submitted under the authority of Jesus Christ. Any one who has serious violent outbursts that inflict pain on another should seek help immediately. They are capable of going this far at any time.
Revellings
komos (ko’-mos): a carousal (as if letting loose) – rioting
There have been many people who claim to be Christians that have been involved in riots.
One example is “right to life” groups who are against abortion. Now, I do not believe in abortion. I think that life begins at conception. Unfortunately, many Christians take their beliefs too far. I have read where rocks were thrown at doctors, and buildings being burned…You cannot bully someone into doing what’s right. Jesus taught us to love. There will be wicked in this world until the day Jesus breaks through the eastern sky. I think peaceful demonstrations and other options are fine.
However, when it gets to the point where anger is the motivation and things get out of control we are making our Beloved Savior look bad to the world. We are not going to get any positive results.
A couple more examples where things can get out of control…Parties where things can get out of control because of drinking and even drugs, dislike for another race, politics…any situation that can lead to an angry riot or that kind of behavior should be avoided by all Christians.
Let’s Pray,
Daddy God, thank you for giving me Your Word to help guide me. Help me to never take my anger so far that I harm someone or bring dishonor to Your Son’s Precious Name. I love You, Lord. I want my life to reflect Your Love and Tender Mercies. Thank You for all the Love you give me and all the Mercy I never deserved. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
In His Love and Service,
Lara ;)
