I am always asking God for wisdom and search often for verses on the topic. One theme that seems to come up time and time again is fear and fool.
Fear of the Lord brings wisdom. Lack of fear makes me a fool.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. – Proverbs 1:7 (KJV)
What exactly does this mean? Am I supposed to tremble in the corner somewhere waiting for God to strike me with a lighting bolt? Certainly not. The fear that I find time and time again is a reverence, respect, piety.
Fear comes from the Hebrew word (yir’ah )
And means.. reverence: A feeling or attitude of deep respect tinged with awe; veneration. The outward manifestation of this feeling: to pay reverence.
Longtime readers know that I always like to look at the flip side (antonyms) of words as well. So, when we are not feeling an attitude of deep respect and manifesting this feeling with obedient living, we are…
Showing… disdain, disregard, disrespect, scorn, aversion, contempt, disapproval, disgust, dislike, disregard, hate, hatred, loathing, apathy, carelessness, indifference, neglect, negligence… toward God.
When I ask for wisdom, I am asking for something that I already have available to me…IF…I am living a live of reverence to my Lord.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. – Psalm 111:10 (NLT)
When I am living and walking in obedience to His Word and precepts, He provides His wisdom every step of the way.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. – Proverbs 3:7 (KJV)
When I step out from this and go my own way, confusion comes in, and lack of wisdom and foolishness abides in me.
I am in awe of how simple it is to be wise. It is certainly a better option to live a life of obedience, even when it requires dying to my flesh, than it is to live like a foolish idiot. Sure, I may have to give up some things my flesh enjoys, however, I am gaining so much more when I walk with my Lord.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. – Proverbs 1:7 (NLT)
When we are walking and living right, God will undoubtedly convict us when we even begin to stray. That, my dear sisters, is a wisdom you will never find in a book, relationship with any man or woman, diet or television show. To have the Creator of all things guide you, and tell you when you are about to step into the muck is worth far more than anything this world has to offer! What could be more valuable than an intimate relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords??
A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. – Proverbs 13:1 (KJV)
Let us all be wise Mothers, daughters, friends, and wives. Let us let go of sin, selfishness and being wise in our own minds. Let us be examples to our children and let them see us live out lives of obedience. For if we do, we are certain to walk in wisdom and make better choices for them since all we do will be guided by the One with True wisdom…
Let’s Pray;
Daddy God, I love Your Word. I love the life that it brings. Help me to cherish Your Word all the days of my life. Help me to walk in obedience to the instructions that lie within the pages. Help me to live a life that is pleasing and submitted to You. In return I ask for wisdom and discernment for every step I take. I want to be wise in my Mothering, character, choices, relationships and marriage. Help me to never think I know more than Your Word. Help me never rewrite it in my mind to fit my selfish desires. I love You, Daddy. Help me to show you every day of my life. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
