Here are 3 Amazing Places to Visit While in Turkey
Gerome National Park and Cappadocia
Why not head for the otherworldly and alien landscape of Gerome National Park and Cappadocia? The spectacular and unearthly landscape isn’t the only thing that will have you gazing in wonderment. Beneath the rocky towers lies an underground city that served as a place of solace for Christians when they were undergoing persecution back in the fourth century. This fascinating subterranean world extends seven and eight levels deep into the earth and opens out into a labyrinthine network of tunnels and hollows that once served as a hiding place for the persecuted. Amazingly, it is believed that the underground city known as Derinkuyu was capable of holding up to 50,000 souls. This incredible subterranean world makes for a great day trip while looking for something slightly different to do in Turkey.
Lake Van
Visit the wild and untouched beauty of Lake Van. This beautiful lake is bordered by snow-capped mountains that reflect their stately majesty on the still waters below which are punctuated with numerous small uninhabited islands that can be easily accessed by boat. Lake Van is particularly beautiful in July and August and offers a slightly cooler climate than much of the more popular tourist spots. This is the place to come and forget the world and feel yourself at one with nature just as it ought to be in all its mesmerizing stillness.
Çoruh River
An absolute paradise for lovers of the great outdoors, Çoruh River offers many opportunities for white water sports such as kayaking and rafting. The majestic Kackar Mountains yield a host of idyllic trails for hikers where you can spot rare flowers and plants along the way while breathing in the fragrant air. Birdwatchers will likewise find an endless bounty of rare species to fascinate and delight.
So, next time you visit this land of cultural and natural treasures, perhaps you’ll visit something just a little different than the usual tourist hot spots.
