I’m not very good at softball. After dozens of strikeouts, I had a brilliant idea. I figured if I could see the ball sooner, it would make me a better player. So I strapped a pair of binoculars to my head before the next game.
Boy, was that a mistake!
Suddenly, everything looked too close. I opened my glove to catch a pop fly, and the ball landed 20 feet in front of me. I swung at the same pitch three times before it even crossed home plate. What’s worse, the binoculars limited my peripheral vision, so I couldn’t see who was standing right next to me. Sorry, Jason!
That’s what Captain Absolutely is about. Not softball – worldview. Just like those binoculars impacted my game (and Jason’s nose), your values, priorities and perspective changes how you see life. Some people see the world as a battlefield, where only the strong survive. Others say the rules don’t really matter, so just do whatever makes you happy.
As Christians, our worldview is shaped by the absolute truth found in the Bible. God gave us detailed instructions: Love your neighbor. Be honest. Worship no one and nothing but Him. And through it all, keep your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).
I wrote Captain Absolutely to show how bad guys try to mess with your vision – and how to combat those lies.
It took five years to complete Captain Absolutely, written and illustrated two pages at a time for Focus on the Family Clubhouse magazine.
My hope is Captain Absolutely helps you explore your faith more deeply and inspires you to be a hero in your community, defending truth, justice and lots more truth!
