Movie Review – Nim’s Island
Movie Title: Nim’s Island
Director: Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett
Staring: Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster, Gerard Butler
Category: Family
Moms of Faith Rating: Two Thumbs Up
Into: A quirky, heart warming and different movie for the entire family. It was really nice to see Jodie Foster in this role.
Review: When I first rented this movie, I was thinking a Swiss Family Robinson type movie. I was wrong. This is a movie like none I have seen.
Nim has an active imagination and she is on an island alone with her father. They are not stranded. They live on this island by choice. Nim has no human friends except for those in her adventure books collection. However, she has several adorable animals as friends. They do not talk, but, they DO communicate and have intelligence and character.
Through a series of events, Nim’s father (Jack) goes missing for a bit. Obviously, Nim becomes very worried and decides to write to the main character in the adventure books she reads, Alex Rover.
Unfortunately, Alex Rover is not a man OR very adventurous. She is an agoraphobic…someone who does NOT like to go anywhere! LOL! NOT even to her mail box!
Well, she overcomes her fear, and travels to help poor Nim.
After several comical events (that I will leave out so I do not spoil the move for you) Alex gets to Nim’s Island.
Needless to say, there is a happily ever after type ending which makes this a family movie plus. No sex, no drugs, no crazy stuff. There is a kiss near the end between Alex Rover and Nim’s Dad, Jack. Nothing to write home about though.
Cons: Nim calls her dad Jack a few times. I did not like that. To me, it is disrespectful. Nim also reasoned with her Dad and did not always obey.
Conclusion: Overall, Nim’s Island is a decent family movie in a world of not so good movies. Your kids will like it and you will like it too…at least once! LOL!! ;)
