The Words We Speak

If you have been around Moms of Faith for any length of time, then you know that the tongue, words and all related to this very important topic has been studied many times. However, there is always something new and fresh in the Word that brings even more understanding. We can never know too much Truth…God’s Truth that is…

You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks.

The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things.

But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle word they speak.

For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced. – Matthew 12:34-37 (amplified)

I am not sure that we realize just how IMPORTANT the words we speak are. Every word. It does not matter if we are speaking it to ourselves or others…words are one of the most powerful forces…period. By words the entire universe was created.

The Words We Speak…

They can bring forth life or death…and WE control them. WE decide what we say and don’t say.

Let’s look deeper into the above Scriptures. Jesus was ALL Wisdom, and there is MUCH to be learned by the words He spoke. I believe that EVERY Word He spoke was of the utmost importance and value. We should study and heed all that He spoke to us!

Verse 36: You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks.

I looked up the original meaning of fullness which originally was abundance, and found a bit of meat….

In my New Testament Word Study, I found the original word to be; perisseuma. It means pieces left over (surplus.)

Immediately, the Lord brought a specific verse to my mind.

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ – 2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)

Do you see??

The “surplus” is what we have NOT submitted to the authority of Jesus Christ! It all starts in our minds. If we cast them down at the feet of Jesus, they will never have the opportunity to become rooted in our hearts and fly out of our fleshly mouths!

This goes for any and all negative thoughts. Self inflicted thoughts and thoughts that are geared towards others. ALL negative and/or thoughts that do not line up with what GOD’s Word say about you or others MUST be diligently placed under the authority of Jesus Christ!

How:

With your mouth!

Speak to the thought…

Example: “In the name of Jesus Christ and the Blood He shed, I command this evil thought to leave my mind. Be gone satan, in Jesus Name! I replace that thought with the love of Christ and the peace His love brings. Thank You Jesus for loving me and dying for me. You are Worthy of all glory, honor and praise. You are Kin of Kings and Lord of Lords. My strength and help in times of needs. I love You…in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen!

You will have to be diligent and do this often. YOU may even look like a fruit cake at times driving down the road and talking to yourself…no worries though…in this day and age, people with think you have blue tooth! LOL! It’s OK, if your kids see and hear…you WANT them to! We NEED to teach THEM spiritual warfare!

Why is it important to be so diligent and even…fanatical?

Well, let’s look at verse 37…

For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced. – Matthew 12:34-37 (amplified)

Sure, there are those that cry “grace,” and act as if they can do and say whatever they want once saved. However, God gave me another verse with this and it is from AFTER the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked [a]by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and [b]that only is what he will reap. – Galatians 6:7 (amplified)

VERY sobering Scripture. You will want to read the before and after verses as well…they pack quite a spiritual punch! ;)

We need to walk out our salvation with fear and trembling and not be so willy nilly with our words. They matter more than we realize!

Let’s repent right now…

Daddy God, please forgive me for every polluted word I have ever spoken up until this moment…to others…about others and to myself. I ask that you wipe me clean with the shed Blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I am truly sorry. Please help me to hold every thought captive and to be diligent in Your Word and putting into practice all that You teach me through Your precious Word. I love You and thank You! In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen!

Your Homework:

Start paying attention to your words! It is important that we take our lives in Christ seriously. Our words WILL be accounted for. When you fail, repent immediately! Dust yourself off and try again! Also, read Galatians chapter 6.
