What God Has Done: Let Your Story Inspire
Whenever there is a testimony time at church I think to myself beforehand, “I don’t need to share, I don’t need to share…” You see, I know if I share, I’m going to cry. And really, who likes to cry in front of a room full of people? My throat closes up, my nose drips and I stand there awkwardly in silence while everyone is turned in their seats looking at me. I don’t love this.
I do, however, love my Lord. When I find myself in a situation where I have the opportunity to share what God has done for me, I cannot keep my mouth shut. Praise God.
“I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.” Psalm 57:9 ESV
What God Has Done: Let Your Story Inspire
I cannot keep quiet about what God has done for me. I do not want to be ashamed of my story. I don’t want to allow my shame at my tears and evident emotion hold me back either.
For some reason, sharing the story of what God has done for us with others can be intimidating. It doesn’t seem to matter much whether we are sharing with one person or a thousand, our skin gets clammy, our mouth runs dry and our heart starts to beat like we’re running a marathon. Everything in our flesh is saying, keep silent, don’t speak.
Don’t allow fear to hold you in your seat and seal your lips. Don’t be ashamed of your story. You will never regret giving thanks to God in the presence of others. Let your story inspire. No story is too small or too messy. We all share a common thread – we are sinners, undeserving of anything good, but God, in His great love and mercy, saved us.
This is praiseworthy! This is worth sharing among the people. This is an inspiring word! If you are a new creation in Christ, then you have something amazing to share!
There was once a woman in need of a Savior. Her reputation was bad and she rarely mingled with the people of her area, but one day she met Jesus. After one conversation with Him she went back to the people she had previously avoided and told them,“Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” She must have been very earnest because the townspeople followed her. “Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me all that I ever did.’ So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, ‘It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.’” John 4:29, 39-42 ESV
One small, undeserving woman boldly told her story to everyone she met. I wonder if while she spoke her eyes shed tears, or her nose dripped, or her throat closed with emotion? Apparently it didn’t matter, her story inspired others to follow and see for themselves who this Jesus was.
Let your story inspire.
What is your story? Share what God has done!
