a Christmas Acronym
What is the meaning of Christmas?
Christmas has become so commercialized that people forget what it really means. Each year people go through the same stresses about having the perfect Christmas. What is a perfect Christmas? The turkey cooked moist and juicy? The house cleaned and decorated? No last minute stocking stuffer shopping? Is it finding the perfect gift?
Nope. It is none of these things. It is about the birth of a Savior, so that we can be forgiven of sins and spend eternity in Heaven with our Creator. :)
Here is an acronym that also puts what Christmas really is about into perspective…
What is Christmas?
C – Compassion
It’s understanding that people are different, and loving them anyway. We all go through hard times and it’s not every year we can do something special for someone, but the little things that are done throughout the year are important gestures that show you care. Loving one another and having compassion for our fellow man is what a true Christian’s life should represent. Jesus walked out love and IS our love example.
H – Help
The little things we do every day every day are contributing to making things better. Helping your son with his homework, holding the door open for a mom and her baby, wishing the store clerk a great day or donating a $1 with your Christmas purchases, etc. Random acts of kindness…Give more of yourself.
R – Remembering
Remembering that Christmas is celebrating life, salvation and joy. Remembering what you have and not dwelling on what you don’t have. It’s appreciating all the things you have in your life whether it’s good or bad because the unfortunate things help us learn a lesson. It is remembering the One Who was born to save a dying world…
I – Importance
Each day we are here on earth, we are learning about something or someone that helps us on our journey home. We should be living life with purpose and as true and faithful ambassadors for the King of Kings. Each day is important and should be lived like it is your last.
S – Sacrifice
Jesus sacrificed His life for you–even if you were the ONLY one who would have received His gift. Sadly, for us making sacrifices is not an easy thing to do because we are giving up our flesh in some capacity. However, there is no better way to thank our Savior than to live sacrificially for Him and live with eternity in mind…
T – Togetherness
Christmas is the time of year that can bring families closer together. Family is so important. It brings unity, love and support. Treasure the time you have been given and embrace the family you have!
M – Memories
Christmas really should not be about presents or great food. It is the memories create each year and the time spent with the people you care about. It’s also a great time to build enjoy or incorporate new traditions so they can be shared through the generations. It is a time to share the love of Christ with others and teach our children what His sacrifice was really about.
A – Action
Actions speak louder than words. If you’ve always talked about volunteering at the food bank, then do it. Put your words in action. Our life should be action focused.
S – Simplicity
Christmas should not be hard. We just make it hard by getting caught up in the commercialism and losing the real focus of what Christmas means. It is being true to our faith, what we do and how we live our lives. It’s knowing we all have obstacles and temptations–but we also know that putting our trust and faith in God will guide us in the right direction.
For to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord! – Luke 2:11 (amp)
Let’s be careful not to let parties, gifts and the stresses of the holiday to cloud the true meaning of this very special Birthday…
