Remember, these date nights doesn’t have to happen at night, and it doesn’t have to involve spending tons of cash. Time–ANY amount of time is worthwhile!

Quality Time for Mom and Son

1. Video Game Tournament
Whose son doesn’t love playing video games? If you’re good at playing video games, then set up a tournament against your son. If you’re lousy at it, have your son teach you.

2. Geocaching
If your son like being outdoors and enjoy solving puzzles, then it’s possible he’ll be interested in geocaching. Geocaching is like going on a treasure hunt. You hunt for hidden containers called geocaches using a handheld GPS unit.

Here’s the gist of it:
Go to Geocaching.com and find your area. Look in their database, find what you’re interested in, and enter the coordinates in your GPS unit. You can also use a compass and map. It won’t take you directly to the hidden container… that will take all the fun out of it. Once you find the hidden container, find something you like and take it, but don’t forget to replace it with an item you brought with you. You can sign and date the logbook and then carefully put back the container where you found it for the next geocacher. When you get home, if you want, you can go to Geocaching.com and record what you’ve found.

3. Go-Karting
It doesn’t matter if you choose an indoor or outdoor track for go-karting. Both provide tons of fun.

4. Sporting Event
Go enjoy an afternoon or evening sporting event with your son. Have some hot dogs and drinks and share some popcorn. Can’t make it to an outside event? Schedule time to watch a sporting event on TV.

5. DIY Project
There are a lot of different do-it-yourself projects you and your son can do together. You can sign yourselves up to attend a free workshop on how to build a scooter or bird house, for example.

6. Miniature Golf
Take your son to play miniature golf or pitch and putt.

7. The Great Outdoors
Date night doesn’t mean you have to spend money to have fun. A great way to have fun with your son is to get outside and play with him! If your son really enjoys different types of sports, then take a few hours and shoot some hoops with him or go to the batting cage. The key here is finding age appropriate one-on-one time to spend with him and staying involved in his life.

8. Bowling
Bowling can be a competitive sport and it can be enjoyed by all ages. You can involve your entire family with this one, if you want, and sign up to be in a bowling league. If your son is younger, 5-pin bowling would be easier as the balls are easier to hold for smaller hands. You can also have fun laser bowling with lights and music or glow in the dark bowling.

9. Indoor Rock Climbing
You and your son can challenge yourselves with indoor rock climbing. Although you can do this anytime, it’s a great on a rainy day.

10. Paintball or Laser Tag
These are popular activities for boys and adults, even Moms. Go ahead; let’s see how good your aim is.

11. Dinner and Movie
There’s really nothing else like it and that’s going on a date with your little man or teen son. Take turns choosing a restaurant and movie. It is also a GREAT opportunity to teach your son how to treat a lady.

These are just a few mom and son date night ideas. Use your imagination, and remember the time that you invest today will bring about not only a lifetime of memories, but a strong bond that will withstand the test of time. Enjoy your sons while you have them with you, Moms!

These are some great ideas! I have a 9 year old son and I recently remarried and have a 17 stepdaughter. My son misses time with just me, so ever so often, we go do something fun, just us….I love it and it makes him so happy!
