OK, on to this week’s Mommy tip

Honesty Pays in the End

Honesty is the most important quality I look for in ALL of my relationships. I am honest in my relationships… including Motherhood. I have read that we should only tell our kids ONLY positive things and I do not agree. Example: if my daughter asked me if she should try out for American Idol and I knew she could not sing in that caliber, I would advise her NOT to. Nicely, of course. :)

Understand this, my teenage daughter is the one who asked me to add this as one of my “Tuesday Mommy Tips.” She said, this is very important to her and wanted me to share her thoughts on the subject…and I quote her EXACTLY

” Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes I don’t like it, but in the end, when I look back, I am glad that she was honest with me…rather than let me do something that in the end I would have regretted. One thing I know I can always count on, is whenever I need advice on something, I can go to my Mom and I know she will be completely honest with me…even if it’s not what I want to hear…LOL! Oh, and since I have adults attention…I don’t agree with ‘tell your kids what they want to hear no matter what,’ you will only hurt them in long run. Plus, honesty, is the best way to go no matter what in life. So, get your tissue boxes ready…cause sometimes, the truth hurts and you just need to cry, or be a shoulder to your kids. Oh, and even if they make you think they ‘hate’ your honesty, they WILL thank you for it in the end…Thanks Mom! I love you!!! Oh, and YES, I am a teenager…don’t stereotype me! LOL!”

I will be honest as a Mother…I am honored that she feels this way and I appreciate HER honesty, that yes, sometimes it hurts. However…I would rather hurt her with truth than hurt her by lying to her.

Let me leave you with some verses to chew on…

“Do not lie. Do not deceive one another. Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.” – Leviticus 19:11,12 NIV

The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth. – Proverbs 12:22

But you desire honesty from the womb, [ Or from the heart; Hebrew reads in the inward parts.] teaching me wisdom even there. -Psalm 51:6

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. – John 8:44

OK, well, I think if you seek God and pray for His Wisdom, you will be surprised at the insight He will give you to what being a good Mother is. Love you, dear sisters!
