Healthy Snacks for School Lunches

Here are some cool healthy snacks for your kids school lunches. These healthy snacks will have the other kids at lunch wishing their Mom was as creative as you! We do not need to give our kids junk to make them look cool. They can be healthy and cool! :)

These are also great for homeschoolers or just great healthy snacks to give your kids year round!

Some Healthy Snacks for School Lunches:

Tortilla ala Banana

1 8 inch flour tortilla
2 tablespoons low sugar peanut butter
2 tablespoons all fruit jelly/jam (whatever flavor your kid likes)
1 banana

Nuke the tortilla in the microwave for about 10 seconds on high to soften it. Spread the peanut butter on the tortilla. Smooth the jelly/jam over the top of the peanut butter. Put the banana at the edge of the tortilla closest to you. Roll the banana up in the tortilla. Hold in place with a toothpick until ready to eat.

Quick Tip: If you are putting this in your child’s lunch box, freeze the banana before making. This will help keep the jelly cold as the banana thaws. Wrap it in foil.

Apple Cinnamon Bites

1 red delicious apple
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Wash the apple well. Cut up into bite size pieces. Place the apples in a plastic baggie. Sprinkle in the cinnamon. Close and shake to completely coat the apples.

Quick Tip: I would transfer it into a plastic container if they are taking it to school.

Healthy Salad Shakers

2 cups of romain or green leaf lettuce, shredded
1 cup carrots, shredded
4 grape tomatoes
2 slices of smoked turkey, chopped
1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup halved almonds (or other favorite nut)
Low fat Ranch dressing

Place the lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, turkey and cheese in a zip lock baggie. Add the dressing and almonds. Seal the bag tightly. Shake until mixed together well.

Quick Tip: You can make one baggie and then make smaller serving sizes from it. If they are going to take it to school, put all the veggie in one container with the nuts. Put dressing in another small container. Add baggie and let the kids shake it up!

I hope this recipes and tips help you get creative…AND…healthy with your kids lunches and snacks. I know it helps them WANT to eat healthy when they have variety and creativity!
