The Lord’s Prayer, part 1
Matthew 6:9-13
Verses 9 & 10
Our Father Who is in Heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your Name.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Let’s look at a couple of these words in their original Greek…
Father – pater (pat-ayr’): parent, father
Kingdom – basileus (bas-il-yooce’) or basileia (bas-il-i’-ah): A sovereign king, rule, a realm, reign. (a foundation of power)
In Webster’s dictionary sovereign means; A supreme ruler, A person who has sovereign power or authority. Having supreme rank, power, or authority. Greatest in degree. Being above all in character, importance, excellence, etc.
Our Father
I don’t think many of us realize that He is our Father…our Daddy. He is a parent and we are His beloved children. He wants us to come to Him that way. He wants to be Daddy to us.
Who is in Heaven
He sits on His throne in Heaven and watches lovingly as we grow up. He hears our prayers and even sent the Holy Spirit to comfort and help us while we are here on earth. He may be in Heaven…but He is with us also…He is always with us.
Hallowed be Your Name
He is Holy Holy Holy. He does not “need” us to tell Him that He is Holy. He is Holy. When we call Him Holy we are showing respect. We are letting Him know that we know and understand that He Is.
Your Kingdom come
He is the final authority. He is the only authority. He is above all. By saying “Your Kingdom come” we are acknowledging His authority and power. We are inviting it into our lives. He does not force Himself on us. We must invite Him.
Your Will be done
His Will…not our will. When we say this we are submitting to His Will. We are dying to self and allowing Him to reign in our hearts and minds. We are giving up trying to run our own lives. We understand that we can’t run them ourselves.
On earth as it is in Heaven
In Heaven there is no question Who is in charge. There is no selfishness. There is no flesh. There is no “I.” In Heaven God is on the throne and every one knows it. They like it that way. In Heaven there is peace, joy, and happiness because no one is fighting God. They trust God. They know His way is better.
If we let go of our will and learn to trust God we will have peace. joy, and happiness like we have never known. But, first, we must let go and let God!
Let’s pray,
Daddy God, Thank You for making me Your daughter and being my Daddy. You are Holy, Lord God Almighty. You are an awesome God. I love You Daddy. Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to help and comfort me. Thank You for loving me. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
In His Love and Service,
Lara ;)
