Intro: This version of Star Trek is a fresh new approach to an old favorite.

Review: I married into Star Trek fandom. LOL. Honestly, I am indifferent to space movies and shows. However, I love my husband, so I watch. And, since I am watching, I look for things to enjoy about whatever film I am watching. For this one, it was not hard to find reasons to enjoy!

I LOVED the movie. It had action, loyalty, friendship and love all wrapped into one well made, well written, original and fun movie experience.

I loved meeting young Kirk…yet still the same “old” Kirk. I really LOVED how they paid tribute to the old Star Trek with little gestures and things throughout the film, including, Leonard Nimoy’s spot in the film.

I also thought they did a FANTASTIC job of choosing the right people for the roles. Whoever was in charge of casting did a stellar job. Just awesome!

On the negative side: I was disappointed that they added one “g-d*m” to the film. I know that Bones used the word “damn” a lot in the series, however, it saddened me that they went to this next level and added “god” to the front of one. I realize it was only one. However, one is more than necessary, and it makes me wary if where they may go with the future installments…

There was some other mild language issues and a short scene that did not surprise me with Kirk, involving partially dressed women. It was normal to what Kirk was on the old series, however, still noteworthy since it was steamy and sensual and Moms WILL want to chat with their sons after the film.

Conclusion: Overall, even with the tactless use of my Daddy God’s Name, and the short steamy love scene, I liked the film. I am really amazed how the story went. It is very crafty how they have now made it possible to have a whole new generation of Star Trek movies…YET…still have the ability to use the characters we have all grown to love over the years past. They will win the hearts of the old and new! Very intelligent indeed! Kudos to the writers!

I found the movie tacky and offensive based on the sex scene alone. I do consider partially dressed men and (painted green)women who are in bed, on top of one another, to be a sex scene. My husband and I took my son and his 3 friends for his 11th birthday and I was mortified! We almost walked out, but thankfully the scene was short and seemed to go over their heads. In addition, we paid more than $60 for tickets, so we waited it out. I would NOT recommend this to Christian families. I’m disappointed by your proclamation to be a “Mom of Faith” and still “LOVE” the movie. Bleh. I’m removing your from my Facebook page.

Bleh??? Geeze! WOW, I am sorry to hear that. I pray that God bless you in all you do. However, I stand by my review. :) I liked the movie and thought it was pretty good. Yes, the scene I mentioned was noteworthy. However, certainly not enough to make me say “no” to Christian families. If you have read my reviews then you know I am QUITE conservative, and honestly, this was by no means a film I would say do not see. I think it was good and mentioned the things I though needed to be discussed.

In closing, I AM a Mom of Faith and I LOVE the Lord and live my life accordingly. Liking this film does NOT in any way change that or make me feel like I am doing something wrong.

I think it is a movie that is OK for Christians. There was a sex scene, but the movie is rated PG-13 so I definitely would NOT recommend the movie for anyone under the age of 13 years old.

I would also like to note that hubbie did turn his head during “sex scene.” LOL. Which I was VERY happy about, so he has NO clue what all the “fuss” is about!

Thanks for the review and the heads up about the language and the sex scene. I am a trekkie from way back and really wanted to see this movie in theaters with hubby, but our schedules just never allowed.

Do you know when it’s due to hit video stores? I can’t wait to rent it!
