We live in Florida, and it can get brutally hot here. So, I thought it would be nice to share with you some tips that have been enjoyable for our family. These are some great ways to have fun while cooling off from the summer heat!

10 Tips to Help Moms Beat the Summer Heat and Have Fun with the Kids

Blanket Fort. This is a great idea for a really hot or rainy day when being inside is more appealing than going out. All you need to do is set up a section of your home with chairs and blankets. Create a fort with them that is large enough for everyone to crawl inside and have room to do activities and sit upright. Make sure to have some flashlights, snacks and fun stuff. It is a great opportunity to tell stories, read, color, play tickle monster and have fun! Obviously, you can do this without the fort, however, there is something about making a fort that really impacts the kids in a positive way. I think the actual making of the fort is the best part. It requires brainstorming what blankets/items to use and how to make it awesomeness! Definite bonding opportunity.

Pool Party. Whether you have a pool or not, you can most likely do this. Almost everyone has a friend with a pool. Give them a call if you do not have a pool and make a play date to have an end of summer break pool party. Plan the day and make sure to get in there with the kids and play some fun pool games. A few ideas: Marco Polo, Sharks and Minnows, Volleyball, etc.

Water Fun. No access to a pool? NO problem. Buy a slip and slide and create your own “water park” with hoses, sprinklers, slip and slide, kiddie pool, etc. Be creative and make sure you ask the kids for ideas. The best part will be when you are setting it all up and spending time together planning your water day. Invite friends and family and have a blast!

Water Balloons. These are fun for all ages. You can purchase a package of balloons at the local dollar store. Fill them with water and have a water balloon fight in your back yard. It is a great way to cool off and burn some energy!

Day at the Mall. Plan a day at your local mall. You do not need to break the bank just because it is a mall. We window shop a lot. If you have girls, they LOVE simply going in fancy dress stores to try them on. End your fun with some lunch in the food court.

Paint Pottery. This is a fun way to kill a few hours, stay cool and have a memento to remember your fun day. We have one in our town that also has tie-dye shirt and glass creation activities.

Dollar Movie Days. Many theaters (Regal Cinema in our town) have summer dollar days. They charge $1-$2 for movies on certain days in the summer. Call a few Moms, and go to see one of them. It is cheap, fun and cool.

Play. Simply spend a day playing with your kids in their rooms with their toys–Barbies, building blocks, race cars, beauty, doctor, color, create, and more. Be a kid again for them! This is something that can be hard for some Moms. However, if you take the time to get on their level and do things THEY like to do, you will not only wind up having a blast, you will build a solid relationship with them that will stand the test of time!

Local Indoor Activities. Many cities have summer events. Check your local website, Google it, etc. Find some fun events that are indoor and affordable. Go.

Indoor Playgrounds. There are quite a few in our town. Places like Chuck E. Cheese, Monkey Joe’s, etc. Most cities have some sort of indoor play place. You could even go to a Chick-Fil-A! The point is, it is a cool, fun and inexpensive way to let the kids burn some energy while having fun. Take the time to play a few games with them they may have at your local play place. If they do not have anything that can be enjoyed by both of you, have an ice cream cone with them. That will definitely make them smile! ;)

I hope these Mom tips help you cool off from the summer heat and enjoy your kids. Every moment is a precious gift from God and should not be taken for granted!
