Looking to the Proverbs 31 Woman
In my latest Faith and Business 101 column I talked about my search for balance this year and the things I’m doing to help find it in my life.
The thing about seeking balance and straightening out priorities is that it affects all areas of my life-not just the part where I’m a work at home mom. As I was thinking about my various goals for this year it struck me that I had unintentionally mirrored the Proverbs 31 woman. Here are my goals (in no particular order) and the verse that I found goes hand in hand with them!
Get up earlier to get more done — She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. vs 15
Set aside dedicated times for working from home — She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. vs 16
Make sure that Hubby is my #1 priority outside of God — The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. vs 11 & 12
Be intentional about taking care of my children & my house — She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. vs. 27 & 28
Working out and getting healthy — She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. vs 17
What a revelation to me that the things I want and need to strive for in my life as a wife & mother in 2012 are spelled out in the Old Testament! It is always such an encouragement to see just how relevant the Bible is and always will be-and encouraging even more so to see that my goals are right in line with what the Bible says they should be!
