Overalls are BACK!

I am so excited short overalls are back in style. In high school two of my best friends took my favorite pair of overalls and hid them from me. To this day, I still do not know where they are, and their memory is sacred to me. I’ve been waiting for them to come back around. My favorite scenes from Runaway Bride are Maggie in her patterned and corduroy overalls. That movie came out when I was in fifth grade. I had a pair of short overalls back then, and I loved them. I think they had a green frog on them and some sort of flower. Let’s just say I’m glad that the overalls that are out now are slightly less juvenile, and way more flattering.

I won’t claim that short overalls will work for every body type, in fact, I fear that my body type might be one of the ones that cannot wear them, but I will say that if you have long legs, these are your babies. And if you’re pregnant and in the early “thick” stages, then please, do me a favor and buy a pair! You won’t regret it, I just know it. The Indiana State Fair is just opening around here and I have this lovely picture in my mind of going to the fair in a pair of denim distressed short overalls and a long, loose white tank top with a pair of braided leather sandals. It probably won’t happen, since I don’t own any of those things except the sandals. But if I hadn’t already spent my birthday budget, I’d invest in some.

I found three adorable styles that I think someone out there MUST buy and wear. Then take a picture and show me.

3 Awesome Overall Styles:

1. MAMA Bib Overall Shorts: Remember I said if you’re pregnant you must buy them? H&M took me seriously! For just $34.99, you can have an adorable baby bump in a pair of short overalls. And the best news? The shorts aren’t too short. So these will probably be the must-have in my maternity wardrobe for the future. (And if you’re not into shorts, just buy the long version…which is equally as adorable.) I can’t even handle them. No uncomfortable waistlines, no worrying about whether your belly will outgrow them, just room to breathe. And enjoy life. And enjoy being pregnant.

2. Guess Denim Shortall: These are as basic and classic as a pair of short overalls can get, but I love the way they look. And with a pair of wedges, your legs will get a nice boost in the long and lean department, too. Plus, if you’re feeling a little bloated, I’m going to suggest these. Feel free to cover up and look cute while doing it!

3. Free People Herribone Shortall: Remember the aforementioned scene from Runaway Bride? These overalls look just like the ones Maggie had on, and I am kind of in love. These can even be useful during those bizarre and unpredictable transitory months between summer and fall when you want to wear a long sleeved shirt but it’s too hot to wear pants too. I am thinking a nice striped shirt, a collared floral one, or even a simple tank would make these guys look awesome. And a bootie to finish? Yes, please!

What do you think? Are you glad overalls are back?

I used to wear overalls all the time when I was in grade school. They were my favorite!

I remember when overalls were in style, and of course I had some! I’m not the type to be first in a fashion, so at this point, I’d hesitate. They can be cute on the right person, though.
