I'm not sure about anyone else but buying gifts for my mom and my friends becomes increasingly difficult each year. I do not have a picky mom or friends, they are all quite gracious. You hear the stories all the time. You catch the whispers between the church pews. Pretty soon someone will come up to and ask, “Did you hear that The Smith’s son was arrested for doing drugs?” The congregation is consumed with how a dedicated deacon’s daughter was caught with a boy in her bedroom. There are stories like these in every church running around wildly leaving the red faced parents to catch it with a net and cage it. Such stories are like reality TV for some and concern for prayer for others. The treatment of these stories provides the distance between us and them. The “us” being those who could never have such a trial darken their door. The “them” are the ones who failed spiritually and paying the high price of watching their children walk in disobedience. Expecting God to Conform to Your Will
I always thought of myself as a woman of faith. I have had my share of trials and through them always maintained the spirit that God is still running the show and He will prevail. With all my needs, wants, and desires, I trusted the Lord or so I thought. I have come to realize that my faith was often misplaced. Not long ago I was in a car accident. The accident injured my knee and over the past month or so I have been dealing with limited movement and ability. This occurrence did not shake my faith. A knee will recover and even if it does not recover entirely I retain the ability to walk. My car was fixed showing no evidence of damage. It was at that moment that I wondered why such senseless things occur. I live in a world where seemingly senseless things occur all the time.
