My children are the light of my life. I would do absolutely anything for them to make them happy and their lives easier. If one of them was to come to me and tell me of something they just absolutely had to have, whether it was truly needed or not, I would do everything in my power to help them obtain it. My love for them knows no limits. And yet, my love for my children is nowhere comparable to the love our Heavenly Father has for us. I was not raised in church. Growing up, the only time I did go to church was when my sweet little neighbor would take me to Vacation Bible School. The rest of the year I just went along my merry little way, oblivious to the world around me. I was surrounded by depressing attitudes and sayings such as “No rest for the weary” or “I know I’m going straight to hell when I leave here.” Ironically, my grandma would hum hymns like Amazing Grace and I’ll Fly Away! Saying I was a confused child would be an understatement! Right after I got married, I started … [Read more...]
The Daily – Always Near
Sometimes I feel like my life is one big trial. I mean just when I feel like I have overcome one, another is ready to pounce. Honestly, it can be quite defeating. There are days that I just want to curl up on the couch and wallow in self pity. It is a hard place to be--yet, I find myself choosing to be there far too often. It's almost like I forget that my Redeemer is Ever-Present and has loving arms wide open to receive me. The Lord is righteous in all His ways and gracious and merciful in all His works. The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth. He will fulfill the desires of those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him; He also will hear their cry and will save them. - Psalm 145:17-19 I find this passage of Scriptures to be profoundly comforting when I am in the muck of self pity. I am reminded that the Creator of all things, the King of Kings, the Great I AM is ALWAYS near me. He loves me and NEVER leaves my side. If I ever feel … [Read more...]
The Daily – Little Red Hen
One of my all time favorite books is the Little Red Hen. I read it to my kids all the time. I have a favorite version too (by: Merrigold Press and illustrated by Amye Rosenberg). Anyway, her most memorable line is, "Then I will do it Myself!" Hmmm... How may times do we try to go it alone? How often do we get that Little Red Hen mindset and think that WE can do it alone and that we don't need anyone--including God? If you are anything like me--far too often! God does not want us to go it alone. Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." - Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) He TELLS us in His Word to give our worries and troubles to Him. He advises us to seek Him and when we do He WILL guide us. We just don't listen! Only He knows why we are … [Read more...]
