How To Keep from Becoming a “Busybody”
In my last post I talked about how the world of women seems drawn to the problem and sin of gossip and drama. The verses I referenced were I Peter 4:15 and 1 Titus 5:13. Though many of us have found ourselves on the receiving end of gossip and drama even when we try our best to avoid it, I think many times we are on the giving end, maybe even though we're unaware of it or don't think of our actions as being a "big deal". I was convicted of this many years ago now. My husband and I were dating at the time and one of my friends and I had a habit of making fun of/talking bad about people. I never gave it much thought since it was all done just between us and (most of the time) in jest. What was the big deal if we pointed out that someone was trying to show off her new "work" to all the boys? It was her fault for being so distasteful right? The Daily – Have IIIIII Got a Trunkful of Dirt….
I always laugh at that line when my daughter watches Disney's Dumbo. One of the women elephants is about to share some gossip about Dumbo's Mom. All the women (elephants) are gathered together discussing a recent outburst by Mrs. Jumbo (Dumbo's Mom), and then one of them says; "Have IIIIIII Got a Trunkful of Dirt..." ...and then begins to "spill the beans". Have you guessed today's topic yet? Gossip It is poison. Period. There is no good gossip. ALL Gossip is wrong...even the gossip we read in popular magazines when checking out at the grocery store. The teacher made all the kids stand in a line side by side.
