Set Your Sights on Something Higher…God

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

You are a child of Christ! Boldly declare this statement and believe it with your whole heart. When you realize you’re a child God and recognize how exceptional you are then you’ll understand why stinking thinking has no place in your life. You made a commitment to walk in the light when you dedicated your life to the Lord. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior you were reborn and left the darkness behind you. As soldiers of Christ our thoughts should be pure, godly, peaceful, and good. In Philippians 4:8, Paul tells us how we should think as followers of Christ, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.” Everything in this Scripture indicates we should set our sights on all that is positive, good and of God.
In the midst of difficult circumstances we tend to focus on our problems instead of setting our sights on God. Focusing on the Lord is the number one way to kick negative thoughts to the curb. Negative thoughts can’t stand up against the power of a godly thought. You have the power through God to change your situation, but only if our attention is on him. When you attach negative thoughts to your circumstances they only worsen. Learn how to change your thoughts to reflect your faith in God.

When you set your sights on God you’re distracted from your burdens. They won’t disappear, but if you’re able to face them with a positive frame of mind the hurdles are easier to jump over. Once a negative thought is formed, another one follows creating a snowball effect. The only way to stop this avalanche from crashing down is to change your focus. If you’re battling with unpleasant thoughts, get on your knees and pray. The Lord draws your attention away from what is troubling you. The Scriptures tell us not to worry about earthly things that have no real value, but to be concerned about your heavenly reward.

Stinking thinking is directly from satan and is in direct contrast to the Christian life. If Satan can riddle your mind with negativity he knows this is how to draw you further away from the light of God and the double whammy is it infects your children so that they’re dragged away from God and his purpose for them. The scriptures warn you against stinking thinking by telling you to prepare your mind. Satan is a liar and eagerly feeds us lies. If you don’t turn toward God to guard your mind, your physical, mental, and emotional state will be in crisis. Your thoughts leave an indelible mark on your heart. Christians need an unobstructed heart to walk the walk of Christ and raise their family with Biblical principles. An unclean heart leads to an unclean spirit and that’s displeasing to God.

You are bigger than your circumstances and God knows that, so should you. Don’t allow your situation to take over your life. Concentrate on your purpose, not your limitations or your troubles. Redirect your focus on God and you’ll go above and beyond your dreams exceeding your own expectations. Place your mind in the hands of the Lord give him the reigns.
