The Sermon on the Mount – Blessed are the Patient

<–back to The Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:5 (Amplified)

Blessed (happy, blithesome, joyous, spiritually prosperous with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long-suffering), for they shall inherit the earth! (refer to Psalm 37:11)

This is the same “blessed” from our first day of this study.

Meek is a tough one for me. I am not very patient or mild, and I don’t suffer very quietly…LOL. Maybe you are better developed than I am…

I do see a reason to strive for this character quality though…well, several reasons.

First, I will be pleasing my Beloved Savior. And of course I will be supremely blessed. I will be happier and live a more joyous (I personally like blithesome) life. You would think that would be enough, but no. Not with God. God always goes beyond what we could ever hope for or imagine.

We will also inherit the earth. You see, we automatically get a free ticket to Heaven when we receive Salvation. There is so much more to what we can receive besides where we reside forever. There are treasures to be earned…and one of them is the earth. Now, I don’t know all of the details of how that will work. However, I do know that Jesus is telling me that by being meek, patient, mild, and long-suffering I will be supremely blessed, happier, and receive an inheritance!

That means whatever “inherit the earth” means is definitely a GOOD thing and I want ALL that God has for me…not just the crumbs!

How do we become meek?

Well, I believe it is like everything else in our life as a Christian. A lot of trust mixed with faith and obedience. It may be more difficult for some (like myself), but I know that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. And if we are striving for righteousness and living for Him, these qualities will begin to come more naturally. And when we fail, we can pick ourselves up and try again and again and again…until we get it right!

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God. help me to be meeker and more patient. Help me to live my life on purpose and completely for You. Help me to be all that You created me to be. Thank You for loving me and giving me Your Word to guide and equip me for the life I am to live. Thank You for ALL of Your countless blessings. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)
