The Sermon on the Mount – Blessed are those who Mourn

<–back to The Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:4 (NIV)

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Unfortunately, we must live in this sin filled world. With it comes trials, tribulation, difficulties, and of course sadness. Many of us have suffered some level of sadness. We have mourned the loss of a loved one, end of a marriage, betrayal, death of a beloved pet, and even loss of material items though storms or fire.

We will never escape loss and mourning while living on this earth. However, we can find comfort in the Lord and His Word. The Word is filled with comfort and joy. It has the power to help us through any and ALL situations that we face.

We talked about the word blessed in our last Beatitude. It means supremely blessed (among other things). Not only will the Lord comfort us through His Word, but we will be blessed for the mourning we must face. We will receive reward simply for going through painful circumstances that are part of life. It may not make us feel better at the time, but I know the day will come when we will be grateful to God for blessing us with all that He does each day.

Following are several Scriptures showing us where and how to find comfort and encouragement…

  • Acts 9:31 (Holy Spirit)
  • II Corinthians 1:3-4 (God)
  • II Corinthians 7:6 (God)
  • Romans 15:4 (The Scriptures)

Of course there are many more. The Word itself is our best source of comfort. In it we find all that we need. Without it we are lost. The Psalms have many encouraging Scriptures to read in times of trouble. Take the time to find the treasures, so that when they are needed you will be ready!

One thing we must always remember:

We MUST believe before we can ever receive anything from God….including comfort.

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, thank You for Your love and comfort. Thank You that You are always here when I need You. Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit and Word to bring me comfort and encouragement. You are Worthy of ALL of my praise. Thank You, My Dear Daddy. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)
