The Sermon on the Mount – Prayer from the Heart

<–back to The Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 6:5-8

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Have you ever been in a situation where you were asked to pray? I always feel like I did when I would start a new school. I get that heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach and want to crawl under the seat. There is always someone there who I know can pray more eloquently than I can. Yet, I always say, “sure!” Then when I’m done, it’s self critique time…LOL…

All of those thoughts and feelings that occur are lies. They are whispered in my ears and yours by our adversary. He does not want us to pray. He would rather us feel like we aren’t good enough.

Jesus says otherwise…He says that big words and eloquent prayers do not impress Him. That does not mean that someone who prays that way isn’t pleasing to Him. It means that He looks at our hearts and that is what impresses Him.

Now, take the time to get in your prayer closet and PRAY!!! And the next time you are asked to pray publicly, don’t feel intimidated. Just let your heart come out of your mouth for the Lord and He will be pleased! If you talk to God like you would a close friend (which is what He wants), then you will do GREAT!

Let’s Pray,

Daddy God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for hearing my prayers and loving me for me. Thank You that I do not need to use big words to pray effective prayers. Thank You. I love You, Lord. Help me to pray more and critique less. Help me to pray and not care what people think. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

In His Love and Service,

Lara ;)
