Faith and Business 101: 3 Things To Think About Before You Work From Home

Before you join the ranks with others who work from home, there are three things you should think about before you jump in with both feet. Once you clearly establish these things, it will make working at home run a lot smoother and you will feel less overwhelmed when the time comes.

Decision

Are you looking for a steady, bi-weekly paid job with set hours? Do you have your own business where you set your own flexible schedule and work when you want? Determining whether you’ll be employed by someone else or self-employed will make a huge difference in how you’ll make your other work from home decisions.

Professional Resume

If you’re going to be working for an employer, then you must have a professional resume. There are plenty of resources online if you need help with writing your resume. If you choose to pay to get your resume professionally done, check around for prices. The most expensive doesn’t necessarily produce the best work and the least expensive…you know what they say…you get what you paid for — sometimes, but not always.

Designated Work Space

You’ll be more successful if you have a designated work space. It doesn’t mean you must have a separate room, but of course that’s an ideal situation. Not everyone has an extra room in their house so a corner or the kitchen or dining room table may suffice as a temporary area.

If you have a home business where you need to hold products then you really need an area in your home preferably close to where you’ll be working. It’s a lot harder to run a successful business if your products are in one area and your documents/files/brochures are in another. Avoid the disorganized chaos because it will only frustrate and hinder your daily performance and your business will eventually suffer.

In the end it’s about making the right choices for you and your family. When you take the time to prepare yourself and involve your family and you have their complete support and understanding, it will make your work from home experience a positive and a wealthy one.
