The Daily – Contentment is Not Always Easy to Obtain

We live in a world of materialism. I am sure that this has always been an issue. Money and stuff have been a problem with mankind since our early days on this earth. However, today, I feel it is most likely at it’s highest level since we have so many media outlets. You cannot go anywhere, hear anything or watch something without some sort of materialistic message, commercial, commentary or topic. It is everywhere.

How can you be content when everywhere you look life seems better?

Well, we must realize that it only appears better. Many times all that “stuff” comes at a price. The price could be time, ethics, and an acquirement of debt. None of these are worth the gain in the long run. We choose to not trust God and accept what HE wants us to have. We would rather take matters into our own hands.

And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19

We do not want what He gives us. Many times, it is not enough to fulfill our fleshly desires.

Sadly, when we take matters into our own hands and sacrifice our time for money, stuff, status and the like, we are giving up relationship with our loved ones and our King. When we let go of our ethics for a sale, we are stepping into sin, and sadly, when we allow debt to come into our lives so that we can have the stuff we want, we are willingly selling ourselves into slavery.

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. – Proverbs 22:7

Contentment may not come naturally, however, it should be something we choose to strive for. We should make the choice to TRUST God and accept what He gives us in life. When we do this, whatever we have will come to us without the pain of debt, without the sorrow of lost relationship, and with more time to fulfill HIS purpose for our lives.

You see, when we DO receive blessings for abundance, it is never so that we can obtain some earthly status…it is ALWAYS meant to move the Kingdom purpose forward and fulfill GOD’s plan!

Let’s pray;

Daddy God, help me to be thankful and content with whatever YOU choose to bless me with. Let me never seek riches and stuff above my time with You, my family, my moral ethics or anything else that exalts itself above YOUR plan for my life. I know You love me and will provide for me. Thank YOU for ALL the MANY blessings you give me every day! I love You. You are MORE than enough! In Jesus Mighty Name, amen.

Homework:

I have included a few verses to encourage you to be content in whatever place God has you in life. Make sure that you look them up and check the references. Study and find all you could ever need in God’s Word!

  • Hebrews 13:5
  • 1 Timothy 6:6-8
  • Psalm 37:16
  • Psalm 37:7
  • 1 Timothy 6:17-19
  • Matthew 6:19-24
  • 1 Corinthians 4:2

Memorize: Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content in whatever state I am. I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance. I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want. – Philippians 4:11-12 (amplified)

I sure needed this today!! After just going through my clothes planning for an up and coming date with my husband, not satisfied with what I have when so many have nothing. Thanks for this, it hit home- striving for contentment!!

For me, it has also helped to get rid of the many impulse buys, gifts or whatever that I simply don’t like or use and are cluttering up my home. When I get rid of what doesn’t make me happy, I’m not having to look past a skirt that makes me look hippie or dust something we haven’t used in years. Reduce the stressful clutter and it is easier to be happy with what is here because it is easier to focus on His gifts.
