Making Time

With Thanksgiving now past we’re entering into what is, for most people, one of the busiest times of the year. Hopefully you’ve already gotten a good handle on all your shopping and you’re calendar for December is probably already chock full of fun holiday events and activities. In the business of the season it’s always easy to forget what Christmas is really all about, and to lose the true meaning in the bustle and stress.

To help avoid this it would be wonderful if you could take a few minutes out of your day to schedule time, that right, time. If you actually put into your schedule allotted amounts of time to reflect you’re much more likely to do it. What you choose to do with this time is really up to you-just make sure that it’s relaxing, refreshing, and has something to do with the true nature of Christmas.

Ideas to Help you Focus on the True Meaning of Christmas

Read through the Christmas story in your Bible — either throughout the month or all at once, it’s easily done in one sitting. Reflect upon each part, especially the ones you can relate to-like Mary’s role in it and all she must have felt with being the mother to the Savior of the world.

Write a heartfelt note to tuck in with your Christmas cards to a pastor, pastor’s wife, or teacher who influenced your life in the past.

Participate in Operation Christmas Child, Toys for Tots, or bring food to your local food bank-involve your children so that they can learn the true meaning of Christmas too.

Give lots of extra hugs and kisses in your family! It’s easy to snap at those we love the most when we’re frazzled. Remind yourself the house does *not* have to be perfectly decorated and if the cards arrive after Christmas oh well, those aren’t as big of deals as being gracious to your own family!

Invite some friends over and make homemade fudge and hot chocolate. As the kids play ask your friends to share how their families celebrate Christmas and what their favorite traditions are-maybe you’ll get some new fun ideas!
