5 Shortcuts to Healthier Eating
As a busy, homeschooling, work at home Mom and wife, I find eating healthy to be difficult to manage. However, there are a few tips that I have discovered over time that certainly help! Feel free to share any of your own as well…
Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received as a Gift from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (amp)
Quick Tips to Help Busy Moms Eat Healthier
1. Eat More Often. Starving yourself is not good for you at all! After about 3 or 4 hours our bodies begin to go into “starvation mode” and our metabolism slows. Yes, you read correctly, it only takes about 3 to 4 hours. Eating small healthy meals every 2-3 hours will not only speed up your metabolism, it will help you to stay content throughout your day. You will be less likely to overeat if you are content.
2. Healthy Purse Snack. Instead of leaving yourself no choices, pack a simple easy snack in your purse. A few ideas; banana, apple, trail mix, raisins or dried cranberries, etc.
3. Break the Fast. Breakfast literally means, “Break the Fast” of your 6-8 hours of sleeping. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. You do not need to be elaborate to have a healthy breakfast either. Yogurt, fruit and a cup of coffee is better than nothing. However, a nice protein in there would really make it a better start. Adding some nuts to the yogurt and fruit would make it a great start to a busy Mom morning. One thing I do every morning is include a non sugar protein drink. Use what you have in your pantry–just make sure you never skip or skimp on breakfast!
4. Proper Portions. While it is important to never skip a meal, it is also important to keep our portions smaller. We do not need to overindulge. As I mentioned above, smaller, more frequent meals are best all around.
5. Limit Sugar, Saturated Fats and High Calorie Foods. Just limiting your intake of these three things will not only help you feel better, they will help you maintain a healthy weight. Avoiding too many sugars, saturated fats and high calorie foods will also help you opt for the healthier choices…like fresh fruit, veggies, nuts and whole grains.
The bottom line is to pay attention to what you are putting in your body! I don’t know about you, but I would like to be around to see my grandchildren…and GREAT grandchildren. How we choose to take care of ourselves can factor into our future health!
So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31 (amp)
