The Daily – Temple of the Holy Spirit
After I had my first child my weight woes began. However, when the second child came I lost control and became overweight. I felt bad all the time. I was tired, my knees hurt and I was always hot. All through this I could feel the Lord telling me that I was out of balance in this area of my life.
I would turn to food for comfort instead of Him.
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)
We are meant to be in balance in all areas of our lives. We serve a God who is the ultimate balance. He sustains the planets! He created ecosystems that are so complex and perfect that when they get even a tiny bit out of balance they can be destroyed.
He also created our bodies and they are to be kept in balance. Why? Because He wants us healthy and able to do His Will!
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. – Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
As I began to take losing weight seriously and allowed God to provide the strength I needed to reach my goals, I began to feel better. The more weight that comes off, the more energy I have. Losing weight looks better, feels better and provides God with a healthy, balanced body to use for the purposes He has for each of us.
Healthy bodies are more than just weight. We must also refrain from harmful substances that could harm our bodies. These include; alcohol, smoking, drugs, caffeine, carbonated beverages, refined flours, sugar, improper sleeping habits, etc. Yes, we can have some of these things in moderation. However, many are harmful if we go overboard and some are bad even in moderation for various reasons.
I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of all the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy devoted, consecrated and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service and spiritual worship. – Romans 12:1 (amplified)
God loves us.
He loves us overweight, underweight, in sin and out of sin.
He just loves us.
He also wants the best for us…BECAUSE He loves us.
After all the many blessings he has given us and the Sacrifice of His son on our behalf, shouldn’t we appreciate Him enough to take care of ALL He has given us? Even our bodies?
We should be living examples of more than just right life choices. We should look good and feel good before the world. Not complaining about achy backs, bad knees, flabby thighs, and how we wish we could break all of our bad habits.
Instead, we should lay down all of our flaws, bad thinking, poor choices and self esteem issues at His feet, and allow Him to teach us how to be, live and remain healthy all of our days!
He loves us enough to help us be healthier.
Ask Him how.
Seek knowledge.
Stop complaining about how bad you feel about yourself and make a change.
Be a DOER!
“My People are destroyed from lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6
I really believe that the Body of Christ should have it together. We should not be overweight, bad habit choosing, complaining, selfish, ailing, unhealthy world seekers. I know we can never be perfect. Only Christ was. However, we can certainly make more right choices and get back up when we do fall. We certainly do not need to look like this world. We should be the ultimate examples of health, wellness, peace, thankfulness, prosperity, joy, love and forgiveness.
Let’s Pray;
Daddy God, thank You for loving me and teaching me how to live. Forgive me for letting myself go. Forgive me for not allowing You to be Lord over every part of my life, including my diet, health and body. I want to show the world the power and joy of a life dedicated and consecrated to You. I want to honor You with my body. Show me the things I am doing to my body that are not in Your Will. Help me to overcome bad habits and make better choices. Teach me YOUR ways, Daddy! In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
